Back to college.

Hi everyone it's very nice to write about good news. Back to college on Monday after months and months of being locked away will be lovely seeing all my friends again. And my new Dr replied to the letter I sent to her and she now understands how I didn't respond to well at our first meeting and she wants to see me earlier so we can build a good understanding and get to know my condition better so that's good. Mum says because I look well sometimes people don't realize I have problems and I may have to explain the situation sometimes. Hope everyone is keeping well. I had my second jab last weekend made me very heady and achy but only for a day.

Good news for you Pokermon. It was obviously well worth writing to your new consultant and I'm glad to know that she responded so positively. Hope you enjoy your return to college and seeing all your friends again.

That’s great! Enjoy enjoy your return to your friends. Having bronchiectasis all of my life I do look very well most of the time, even when I have an exacerbation and feel very poorly. I suffered terribly from the ignorance of games teachers who accused me of laziness, no allowance in any lessons for the fact that I was often just exhausted. Even recently, I was upbraided in front of my book club by a member for parking in a disabled space ( with a blue badge). When my friend pointed out that I am disabled the reply was ‘well she doesn’t look it’. She was so embarrassed that she never came back lol!So I know how frustrating it is. So if you can be bothered to summon up the energy, put the idiots in their place straight away. Luckily, attitudes have come on a little from my day but you don’t be ashamed to tell it like it is.xx

in reply to

Thing is you can't always tell someone is disabled by looking at them!

in reply to

But it's not good to criticise is it. Too many do without thinking I'm afraid.

in reply to

When I am out and about at present and someone isn't wearing a mask I don't say anything and mind my own business as I feel its not my place to criticise!

in reply to

It's difficult isn't it. I just avoid them

Yes I have experienced people staring and whispering to each other when I walk away from parking in a disabled bay (with a Blue Badge in my car) because I look OK but the fact is I cannot walk very far without getting out of breath, they do not seem to notice that I walk away slowly as I get out of breath. A lot of people still do not understand that some disabilities are hidden. It used to bother me but I just ignore it now. I suppose we just have to accept that many just do not understand. Take care. xx

in reply to Snackjack

Too true. It's hard enough persuading the Blue Badge admins that we need one. Having got one we don't need to explain to anybody else.

Agree with you being a young 18 year old people can be very judgemental when I suddenly get out of wheelchair and walk for a while they just stare and I just smile they just don't understand that's there problem not ours. 😊😊

Oh,and well done you for taking the initiative and writing to your consultant. Good ones do appreciate pro active patients who understand their condition and help them to understand how to treat them. XX

Not sure about those who have had covid having worse side effects with the vaccine but it surely can't be worse than how it feels having the virus. When your turn comes I hope that you will be ok. xx

Great news! I hope college goes well and you enjoy meeting up with everyone again. Well done for sorting things out with your consultant. Sometimes it's easier to explain things in a letter as you can sit quietly in your own environment and think about what you want to write without feeling the pressure of a timed appointment. I'm sure things will be better next time you meet. xx Moy

So glad your new doctor responded positively to your letter. Enjoy college and seeing all your friends again.Lots of us identify with you: looking well on the outside so people don't realise our hidden disabilities. My late husband Bob used to say he looked like a shiny waxed red apple, great to look at but rotten inside.

Dear Pokermon, Sorry for my delayed response.

How’s it been back at college? Hope you’ve had a good couple of days!

I’m really glad too that your new consultant read your letter and took you seriously and has decided to see you sooner!

... I find it very similar, that because I look fine on the outside (often even when I’m really poorly and in hospital!) people don’t always realise what’s going on because I look fine! 🤦‍♀️

At least you’ll have another chance to explain things! She sounds like a decent consultant if she’s wanting to see you again sooner.

Have a good week hun! 😊
