Amoxicillin side affects?

Hey all excuse me if i don't make sense or i go on I'm on the autisic spectrum, I'm an little nervous as for the first time i have decided to go against doctors advice, I'm not sure if anyone else has before and still was perfectly fine. So i had what i believe asthma flare up or viral infection, so i was put on steroids and antibiotics, i did ask doctor is antibiotics nesscary as i may just have viral infection or asthma flare up his reply that's 1000 dollar question but it was the Friday so he said best safe than sorry. So i believe taking the amoxicillin made me so week i could barley lift my head of my pillow, i could hardly go l bathroom but when i did i struggled to breath due to coughing and lack of removing stuff off my chest, my symptoms only got worst i sweating where soaking sheets, had temperature, got heart palpitations, little pin prick spots, dehydrated. I was taken to hospital last 3 days by ambulance covid tested everytime negative, given iv antibiotics and fuild sent home, I was given nebuliser which helped bring so much crap off my chest it felt so good. The confusion is its confirmed that no signs of bacterial infection on xray or bloods, i do have an wheeze, told to contuine the antibiotics. I was took in yesterday as all the above with extra symptoms which was lights killing my eyes, facial pain, pain when breathing, crackle and wheeze on the painful side, i had no antibiotics then forgot to take them last night as felt so weak, through out the night I got the most i had for days off my chest as I couldn't get anything on antibiotics, i feel more human and I even showere, i feel like i have more like what I would call cold symptoms. I just not sure if going against doctors advice is wise. Opinions would be great i know no-one is an doctor and can replace them.

Sounds like you have nasty infection! Trouble with lung disease,even viral infections causing excess mucous,can v easily cause bacterial infection.personallly id ake the advice given by dr + hospital & ake yr antibiotic course

And do keep getting mucous up

I only managed to get up when not on antibiotic it as if its stuck/ no energy but will try thanks will take it again.

Hello and welcome if you're new.

Its just as likely that a chest infection made you so poorly that you couldn't lift your head off the pillow!

Yes, coughs, colds, flu etc are viral however, when you already have asthma they can very easily turn into bacterial infection hence your GPs treatment . Unless you're allergic to penicillin my advice would be to take them especially at the moment. The last place you need to end up is in hospital. If you're no better when you've finished abs and prednisolone you absolutely must contact the Gp. Amoxicillin is only their first line of defence.

A bad lung infection can do more damage than a course or two of antibiotics- in my opinion.

It sounds to me as though you have a nasty infection which could be bacterial or a virus. Importantly you may be allergic to the penicillin in the ammoxyll. The small spots are the give away. A bad reaction can also make you breathless. You do need to pin your doctor down and get the antibiotic changed.

As others have suggested viral infections often lead to bacterial infections. Taking antibiotics can prevent this. Please finish your course of antibiotics as stopping them can help bacteria become resistant and more harder to treat. If you feel they are not working ether contact your GP or ring 111 for advice. You may need to send a sputum sample so that they can target the infection with a more appropriate antibiotic. I had a similar problem with my last chest infection and amoxicillin did not work. But a ten day course of Doxycycline did the trick. Remember to drink plenty of fluids which will help clearing the mucus. I hope you feel better soon.

I've had amoxicillin in the past for chest infection,,I always thought it was the infection making me so poorly but it turned out it was amoxicillin, a really bad reaction but not allergic reaction, I felt like I had triple flu and nausea.

My consultant changed to doxycycline and they work brilliantly, no adverse side effects.

Please speak to your doctor and change your antibiotic

I have to say after reading your message and your previous message when you were prescribed co-amoxiclav which also contains amoxicillin that there is a possibility you have had a reaction to this kind of antibiotic or one of your other medications does not interact with amoxicillin correctly.

However if you have taken this kind of medication previously to this and the previous episode without any problem whatsoever then this might not be the issue and as others have suggested you had been experiencing a bad infection.

If this is not the case and you have not taken amoxicillin previously then I would suggest that you mention this when you are speaking to your GP and the hospital because it is very important to do so for any future issues that may arise.

Having had a toxic reaction to medication in my past I realise how bad this can be if not picked up. For me my GP did not believe me for weeks when I discussed this and after feeling so bad I managed to find my consultants email address and within the hour I received a reply telling me to immediately stop the medication and take a copy of her email to my GP. It took several months for my liver enzymes to get back to normal. It is important regardless to mention that you feel that you might of had a reaction to a medication.

Do not ever be afraid of raising these issues with the hospital and the GP, we all have to speak up for ourselves. I understand you have had problems taking your partner in with you to appointments, I would urge you on every occasion to tell these people the person is your carer and needs to accompany you. This could also be raised with your GP so that he/she can include this on any referral should this be needed.

Ps the spots could b reactiom to amoxicillin as LP sez but could also b part of viral infection especially.hope yr feeling a bit better today.do clear mucous frm lungs and observe how it looks - colour etc

helo, sorry to hear your haveing bad time, im on my second lot of antibiotics and steriods since christmas, each time i have diffrent reaction mostly stomache probs iv had blood tests, and told its not bacteriol , but i must say i do get better for a while after takeing full course,

i have empherseyma, so itts the right meds for me,

There are some very good replies. Without intention to frighten you even more, I had experience last summer of an infection which is neither viral nor bacterial, but fungal. This is another thing for people with respiratory problems to be aware of. I was treated with two types of antibiotics. In my case, I can almost feel improvement after only two days of taking the right antibiotics, if I have bacterial infections. I was telling that to my GPs as I felt that something was different. They insisted I take full dose even though I knew they were not the right treatment. I ended up in A&E where I was given another antibiotic and discharged on the same day. Those antibiotics didn't help either. I was surprised when a consultant contacted me a few days later and said that he wasn't surprised the antibiotics didn't work because he suspected the infection was fungal. I was very confused by his response. Why did he allow me to go home with another course of antibiotics, while suspecting something else?! Anyway, I ended up back in hospital after 5 days of more night sweating, high temperature and 3rd course of antibiotics in over 10 days. After 6 days in hospital, I was diagnosed with ABPA (Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis) and treated with Prednisolone 30mg and Itraconazole (antifungal) for 3 months. Before I went to hospital, I didn't caugh. Started caughing in hospital, bringing up some dust-like bits. Only that professor knew what that was everybody else looked surprised to see my 'sputum'. A year before that I had a enormous caugh with thick, sticky mucus, but doctors did not examine it for fungus. The tests go as far as doctor's knowledge. They were telling me that no bacteria was found in my sputum. I believe that my condition just appeared differently over a year and that I had the fungal infection long before it was diagnosed.

Yes, thank you. That was one important step forward but I have a number of other issues which doctors are not connecting. I think that my immune system is the main problem, hence, so many infections and even a skin cancer which I'm having removed next week.

I would ask for a telephone consultation or, in my case, fill in a patient questionnaire form which our practice offers on their website. In the meantime make a list of all your main symptoms so the doctor who deals with you has a clear picture of how you are. Do it now unless you have already done so. Hiya Shashf, I'm also on the spectrum so fully understand your feelings on this.

In future when you're offered antibiotics tell the doctor you had unpleasant side effects with the last ones, some of us have problems more with the additives in the tablet or capsules than the medication.

There are lots of different ones, sometimes it's trial & error to find ones that suit you.

Don't be afraid to phone the doctor if you're getting side effects & need them changing. With asthma it's better to take antibiotics early on than be on deaths door & go to hospital for intravenous ones. Wishing you health and safety. Sunny

Hey all so sorry i forgot to update everyone unfortunately i was having an allergic reaction i ended up having adrenaline and staying in hospital for an few day's as i had an secondary allergic reaction (unsure of the difference) to pelliclin. I also had an AKI as everytime I went in hospital i got put an drip for dehydration, even though i was insistent i had drunk an Lot, so some of my symptoms was down to my excess water intake, the hospital was apologetic for not listening and i can't complain of treatment i received as it was very respectful. I was given an allergy test which some very surprising things was on there like curry sauce, gutting as one food i do like but also an milk allergy i have to carry epipens now as my allergies are become more regular to things that i wasn't previously allergic too, i also have been diagnosed with addisons disease which is the main cause to alot of my symptoms and I'm happy to report my life is back on track I've only had one Lot if illness since and I've even managed to do football sessions. I hope everyone is well.
