Hi, I posted a couple of weeks ago ( my first postings) that in the last 3 months I had had 3 exacerbations, which were treated each time with my rescue pack amoxicillin for two weeks, and finally was sent for x-ray, then told I needed urgent blood tests and ct scan, which was worrying as all tests done within a week!
Fortunately nothing nasty diagnosed, but the ‘mass’ they referred to shows I have an hiatal hernia
Has anyone had similar findings. 🤗
Hi Samye, 😊That must have been a worrying time but I’m glad it’s nothing nasty. I don’t know about a hernia but just wanted to say I hope it’s not too troublesome for you. Are they going to do anything about it, or leave it be for now?

Good morning....I have bronchiectasis and emphysema...I was having lots of problems and was sent for an Endoscopy...awful experience that was ...I should have chosen to be sedated but I wanted to drive home...typical me..lol....I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia too....gosh it causes me trouble...pain.. heartburn...breathing difficulties. .chest pain...sometimes it can even mimic a heart attack. .I hate it to be honest ..its a nuscience that could be rectified easily..but I haven't pursued it with my GP....I wint bother now until corona virus has subsided from our lives a little...our GPs have failed us enough already if you ask me....they are NOT frontline workers...they have shirked their responsibilities...
Sorry you feel your GPs have been shirking their duties. I must disagree as ours have been brilliant throughout the pandemic. It's the luck of the draw, I guess. xx Moy
Glad you have a diagnosis, and it's not what you feared. Hope it gets treated soon.
I have had a hiatus hernia for years. My respiratory consultant has described it as enormous and wrote to my GP to say that most of my stomach is in my chest! I asked my GP about having an op. He wasn't having any of it as it's quite a major operation, apparently. I continue to take Lansoprazole morning and evening and this keeps all the pain and discomfort at bay. Occasionally I get a feeling of being so full after a normal sized meal that I can't swallow anything else - it just comes back up. This only lasts a day or two and then I go back to normal.
The reflux has certainly been a factor in my chest conditions but that seems to be at bay these days so I'll just keep taking the tablets unless I need an emergency op I guess. xx Moy
I found out after a colcoscopy a few years ago that I had a sliding hiatus hernia & to be honest no one seemed concerned about it & as it wasn’t giving me any problems at the time I forgot about it until I read your post as my breathing has got quite bad since the middle of last year but as I had been having sinus problems & a horrible cough it has sort of been assumed to be my copd becoming the problem although no tests or face to face consultation has been done, I have been feeling uncomfortable & a bit twisted inside but I have put on a stone since not working & was also given omeprazole for acid reflux which they put down to aspirin I’m taking for my heart . Makes me wonder now ...
That is a relief. Yes i think it was caused by the meds i take (steroids) medication helps i hope you can soon be sorted out 😷
I have had an HE for umpteen years and yes it is a periodic pest.My older brother had an operation for his, he told me what it was all about and how invasive the surgery is.
His experience put me right off an op.. However I have had my colon removed and I can tell you the after effects are very restrictive.
so think things through before committing to surgery.
Long story: Following respiratory failure I had scans etc. One showed tumours in my tummy. Had radical hysterectomy so that got rid of those nasties. However, shortly afterwards an incisional hernia appeared. Had surgery with mesh to repair. But, a new hernia appeared higher up! Have recently had surgery to repair that. It was a large one and several small ones this time. Slowly recovering. Anaesthatist was very cautious and careful with me. I had tests prior to admission including a heart scan and the dreaded blood gasses. An intensive care bed was booked and this time i spent 2 days there then onto a side room of the ward. Hospital was amazing. So many covid precautions and I'm still here to tell the, long, tale. Please don't hesitate to have treatment if its appropriate.
