They do seem low for someone your age but you need to check with your doctor. I am twice your age with copd/asthma and blow about the same. This is not bad for me though.

Like I said though make an appointment with your doctor/respiratory nurse to discuss them.

Hi Natalie,

I’m guessing asthma is your diagnosis? If so then...

I don’t think it’s so much if it’s about right, but what is your individual PF.The asthma nurse generally asks what is our personal best, then from that can work out when your asthma is deteriorating etc, and when it’s uncontrolled and needing different meds etc...

For example, my PB is 400, but generally sits between 330-360. I know if mine starts dropping under 300 that I am going into the amber zone ( do you have an asthma plan?)

Some people with asthma though, don’t get a drop in PF with a serious asthma attack. It sounds like you really need to have a chat with the asthma nurse or GP or ring asthma U.K. help line, and ask for an asthma plan.

If you don’t have asthma and it’s something else, please ignore this but still talk to your GP.

If it’s a general average you are looking for, then there are various peak flow charts online that you can find, but obviously they are general and not taking you as an individual with your own lung size/ capacity/ health etc

As others have said it's not about right or wrong it's what is normal for you. Your readings are about the same as mine which I am always happy with. However when it starts to drop that's when you have to be aware.

I think you need to take readings for a few days and monitor the results taking a note of how you are feeling at that time. You can then judge whether this is your normal reading to allow you to monitor your condition.

Hope this helps.

Hello Natalie0988, your readings seem low but it is about what is your norm. I am much older than you and can reach 300 but during the cold weather mine was as low as 200. I would suggest you read them regularly to find a rough norm for you and also discuss it with a surgery nurse which you can do on the phone. We are all different to spite maybe having the same health issue.
