Anyone else waiting to hear about their vaccine?

Hi All

I haven’t posted in a while so I hope you’re all staying positive and are as well as can be expected.

I am mid 40’s with moderate bronchiectasis. Throughout the pandemic I’ve never received a shielding letter (I have been very sensible though) and I’m yet to be offered a vaccine. Is anyone else in the same boat? Have I been forgotten about? Or is it possible my bronchiectasis isn’t serious enough to flag as vulnerable? Have thought about asking GP but I know there are others who are in worse health situations than me. Friends and family can’t believe I haven’t been contacted and it does make me curious as to why...

Thank you cofdrop. I will call the GP on Monday. As for my consultant - my routine check up appt last Sept was cancelled and when I try to call there is no answer as I’m about 30th in the queue! God knows when I’ll get checked again!

That is so bad Dream. IK think there is a criteria although I can’t remember what it is - maybe using nebuliser. OMG my memory is rubbish but I would stand my ground if you are moderate. Surely having to do lung clearance, the presence of gunk in your lungs would be enough reason to have a vaccination for what is essentially a respiratory disease And that you are at risk without it.

Have you got an email to con or sec or is there a resp nurse you could contact? Hope you get sorted and get the vac soon.

I do think that although your bronch wasn't severe enough to put you in the shielded group, it does qualify you to be in group 6 which is being done now.My son in law has mild asthma and has been told to have it. The list for group 6 includes lung conditions. Unfortunately, the comparative rarity of bronch compared to cf, copd and asthma means that it is odten forgotten. I suggest that you get hold of your GP and get them to do something about getting you in.

I have just read next group 50-59 April then next group 40-49 then 30-39 then younger. Still refusing to police and teachers as key workers

With moderate bronch they will be in the same group as me - over 65's and those who are vulnerable regardless of age. I had my jab a week ago.

I did receive my book your vacc letter and when I rang up was referred to a place too far from home so I rang my GP and they said they had texted me 3 days beforehand which I hadn't received. They sent me a new text with an individual booking no. on and I was able to attend a centre much nearer.

I would advise the poster to ring their GP.

HiI am 51 and have moderate COPD and epilepsy, I havent yet been invited but my husband who is 58 with no underlying conditions was contacted 2 weeks ago and today had his vaccine. I was very confused so I called my gp at the beginning of this week, they said I need to give it 2 weeks, if I havent heard then call them again.

Thank you everyone. I’ll be calling the GP Monday. I don’t know if I have the secretary‘s number for my consultant but I will try and get hold of it. I know they are stretched but we can’t be forgotten can we?

If you have a decent gp I would ask to speak to him personally as at mine there was a really nasty secretary or something who just blocked people as I have found not only me but my 72 year old friend with a vulnerable daughter had just been told basically No! So if yours is decent you should at least find out and get a sympathetic answer to put your mind at rest. Good luck, take care , I’m sure you will get help 👌🍀👍🏻

Me again, yes lines will be full Monday morning so try as late as you can and my practice has even cut off emails so I rang the 119 no to book my own and the young lady I spoke to was really nice and assured me I was on the list for vulnerable etc and gave me an appointment there and then . I’m afraid I decided to hang on for my doc which was a bad idea but I had the evidence now from 119 for leverage, so get crafty and work out a cunning plan 👍🏻👍🏻😀very best luck

I too have bx and asthma and have not been bumped up the priority list. When you read the detail for the clinically very vulnerable it includes such details as being on oxygen and recent hospitalisation etc. I manage to control my conditions well so even though I’ve had my first vaccination it was on my age alone.

Hello Dream1, the general trend now is if you have not had the vaccine contact your GP. But they are still using age as the main criteria for when to give it to a patient. Your area could still be doing other age groups. Hope this helps.

2 weeks ago my friends 2 girls aged 28 and 24 with underlying health conditions had the vaccine, also the younger girls parents and the older girls husband. I think its to do with area and sensibility of those administering vaccines

Thank you Suzie42 for reply my daughter had hers yesterday but she is over 50 with an underlying health condition, but I do know of others in my area who were younger and done , I'm in Coventry. Most were those with other health conditions .

I meant to add. They live in Kent but are under St Thomas's hosp in London where vaccination took place

I was only classed as moderate Bronchie but because of taking High dose steroids for other stuff became Clinically Vulnerable. My friend who has very mild asthma aged 55 was offered hers the same time as me so bit of a lottery in different areas I feel. Hope you get it soon 🤞 Stay safe

Well we in same boat but are in our mid 60s with heart disease diabetis and asthma. between us I might add. Never received a shielding letter either & we both work. Think we have been overlooked as our son who is 40 who only has an under active thyroid who lives in a different area got a call to have his yesterday. Think I will chase the surgery but have waited as they busy but always seem shut when we pass and hard to get them to answer phone.

Definitely call your GP. They are busy but it’s worth checking you are on their radar! Good luck.

You should be able to book a jab now as you may not be clinically extremely vulnerable but you are clinically vulnerable.

My husband who is clinically vulnerable ( but not diagnosed because of covid ) got an appointment ticking the box as a Carer.

I can understand your frustration I really hope you get it soon, seems unfair to me if your like myself a simple cold can really knock me back goes straight to my chest setting off my asthma, I can understand yours and everyone else’s worries.Take care
