I have been on steroids since last June and had pneumonia in October, not sure whether there was any connection. I ended up in hospital and like you I'm struggling to feel better. It's not been a good year has it?

After botched spinal fusion surgery in December 06 I developed pseudomonas infection. First I had intravenous Ceftazidine 4000mg daily for 12 weeks. But infection returned October 07 and I had Cipro. 1500 pd for nine months which killed the infection. Took it out of though. Best of luck

Sorry to hear of your experience. Just to say that 12 weeks of Cef is not the normal response for a pseudo lung infection in bronchiectasis patients, but can be appropriate under other circumstances such as a post-operative soft tissue infection. Similarly, cipro at that dose and for that duration is not appropriate under the OPs circumstances. Glad you’re feeling better, though.

I've been prescribed ciprofloxacin many times for flare ups of bronchiectasis, it doesn't always work for me had 7 and 14 day courses neither seemed to be successful. Needed to go onto steroids as well . Depends on how unwell I am, I live in Spain and am trying to get the nebulized antibiotics Colomycin which I had when I lived in Malta which is amazing, while on this I only had one hospitalisation with a really bad chest infection that required i/v treatments, this was all I used no need for antibiotics; we are all different good luck and stay safe and well.

So sorry to hear you are suffering. My mother suffered bronchiectasis from childhood, and was often on antibiotics and in hospital when things were bad, she never smoked, and thinks it started when she choked on some peanuts she was eating aged 9, she couldnt stop coughing afterwards for hours. She blamed the menopause for a deterioration in her condition, but wouldnt use HRT as she was concerned about side effects. If I knew then what I know now, i would have encouraged her to take it, estrogen apparently helps to repair soft tissue, so she may well have been right, it would at least have been worth a try, obviously it doesnt cure the condition, but may improve symptoms.

I recently read a scientific report about it sciencedaily.com/releases/2...

Also, again I know its not a cure, but I came across 'olive leaf extract' while browsing for a natural product that had antibacterial and antiviral properties, it is well known in Australia and New Zealand, where it is used as a preventative to colds and flu. I think it is less well known here as it is quite expensive, i purchase it from holland and Barrett as a standing order which makes it cheaper, the liquid rather than capsules as its more versatile, 500ml comvita olive leaf extract, you just have 1tsp 2-3 times a day with a meal, it is bitter so i take it in a little juice. My whole family swear by it now, ive even diluted a capful in half cup of water and used as mouth rinse to clear up bleeding gums and a minor eye infection.

Hope things improve for you soon, just wanted to share the information, you may not be any where near menopause, but it might be worth a try for someone. Take care.
