Vaccine

Had my covid jab 48 hrs ago. I was very unwell after. Within 30 mins I had collapsed and my face swelled up. Couldn't open my eyes and my lips were huge. I had trouble breathing and they started me on prednisone. Tablets are kicking in now. Still can't eat because of nausea but hopefully I will soon pick up.

Pfizer vaccine. Still got muscle and joint pain. I've been advised not to have the 2nd jab. Thanks for your support.

Dont be. This is rare. I always was a weakling

Superzob profile image
Superzob in reply to Toby14

Far from being weak, it sounds like an unusual allergic reaction, which has now passed and been replaced by a normal immune response (hence the aches and pains).

I understand from another post that the yellow card system operates for vaccines, just as it does for other medication reactions and, if you feel up to it, it might well be worth reporting.

Hope you recover quickly.

Blackcat99 profile image
Blackcat99 in reply to Toby14

Oh, no - this sort of thing is definitely nothing to do with being weak! (and here I'm speaking up in my own defence too!)I also had Pzfizer jab, didn't even have a sore arm afterwards - BUT, a few weeks ago, I had an absolutely awful reaction to a change in my BP meds (thought I was about to explode 😫) and yet you might well be totally fine if you were given that medication. We're all just that bit different, and aren't going to react in the same way to everything, are we?Hope that you improve very quickly. It'd be nice to think that - even with the bad reaction - you might have got some anti-COVID benefit from the jab? 🤞

Sorry you had a bad reaction, sounds like it made you really poorly. I think it's good advice not to have the 2nd Jab, you will be afforded a good amount of immunity even with one Jab. I had mild flu like symptoms for 24 hrs wasn't to bad slept most of the time. I had the Oxford one. Take care Xxx

How high a dose of prednisone?.

Toby14 profile image
Toby14 in reply to Maricopa

6 tablets a day for 5 days

Maricopa profile image
Maricopa in reply to Toby14

I asked because I’m on daily 10mg for maintenance. And I do have side effects from the steroid.

Sounds like you needed adrenaline for anaphylaxis, not pred, unless you mean they’ve given you that since? I had itching, rash, and then swelling of the mouth and throat with the pfizer, but the anaphylaxis was stopped with quick use of adrenaline at the vaccine centre and a second dose in the ambulance.

Izb1 profile image
Izb1 in reply to

Oh my word Charlie that must have been scary, good job this happened at the centre where you could be treated x

in reply to Izb1

It definitely wasn’t fun, but I don’t regret it. That said, it may make me slightly more nervous going for a second jab, even though they’ve told me I should be absolutely fine with the Oxford 😬🙈 It’s the whole point of asking people to wait: most if not all serious reactions to any of the vaccines are happening within the first 15 minutes. Those with a history of anaphylaxis to anything should be asked to wait for 30, just to be sure they’re ok, but as in my case, they’re finding that most people reacting to the Pfizer in particular actually have no known history of allergies. The anaphylaxis rate is still minuscule though - it’s 10 in every million doses atm, or 0.001%. The staff at the vaccine centre were so quick to respond, A&E told me I was too well looking for an anaphylaxis patient 😂

Izb1 profile image
Izb1 in reply to

I think I would be nervous as well, but sounds like they had everything under control. Will be good when this is over and we can get back to living x

Toby14 profile image

I've been ok with flu jabs until this one

Kristicats profile image
Kristicats

Will they try a different vaccine for your booster?

Toby14 profile image
Toby14 in reply to Kristicats

Told me not to have it as I was allergic to the vaccine

in reply to Toby14

I’ve been told the Oxford is a possibility for a second dose for those who have had anaphylaxis in response to the Pfizer, but to avoid any mRNA vaccine (so the Pfizer, and also ones like the moderna). Might be worth speaking to your GP.

I thought any reaction was within 15 mins, very worrying that yours was 30 mins after, were you still at the centre where you had the jab? Very scary, you could have been in your home alone, or driving back, hope you are feeling ok now x

Toby14 profile image
Toby14 in reply to Izb1

i stayed in the centre for 15 mins. I was fine. I was 2 mins from home driveing when i suddenly felt giddy and sick. Fell out the car on my driveway , vomited, managed to get through the front door and slumped to the floor. my partner who has dementia just said i’ll make a cup of tea, crawled into bed(we have bungalow) no stairs thank good. Felt my face go funny. looked in a little mirror by the bed and my face was bloated ,lips swelling eyes piggy. I only have one lung So i keep antibiotics and prednisone in a emergency for infections. Took 6 prednisone. Rang doctor who said keep calm came straight out. I was starting to breathe a bit better. Doctor came said i did right thing but was reluctant to send me to hospital. He stayed a hour. Told me he had seen a few bad reactions. The steroids kicked in and i’m feeling so much better, sorry this is long

I’m so sorry to hear this Toby I had my covid jab Thursday eight hours later I felt awful headache felt nauseous hot and cold haven’t eaten properly since ... still have headache and feel tired ... just listening on tv and a scientist is saying if you’ve had covid the reactions to the injection can be worse and I’m thinking I had it before in January 2020 so maybe that’s why I still feel awful.

Oh you poor darling....I so feel for you and your situation. Many thanks for sharing your experience with the jab. I hope you recover quickly and no more nasties happen to you. Take good care. You are not alone, I have heard of others too who have had nasty reactions to the Pfizer jab. This is totally new type of vaccine ever to be introduced into our world. So bound to have varied reactions. Do you think you will have the second jab? Whatever you decide hope you keep safe and well physically, emotionally and spiritually. All the very best to you and yours.
