Advice on Flare-ups please

Hi Gang, hope everyone is keeping as well as they can and keeping safe.

Since Christmas day I've been quite bad, breathing very bad and chest sounds like an out of tune orchestra wheezing away, keeps me awake. Phoned the GP today and was given a rescue pack of antibiotics which I have started taking. Thing is that I only just finished one lot I got at Papworth in December. Feeling better tonight after just 2 tabs so I definitely need them. Could this be another flare up or maybe I didn't get rid of the first one properly. I'd rather be safe than sorry, would appreciate your thoughts please.

Thankyou my lovelies

xxxxx

I usually have to take two rounds of the z paks (azithromycin)....I don't know why and the doctors are always reluctant to give me a 2nd round of it stating how it stays in your system for 10 days...blah, blah, blah.....

All I know is I don't get rid of what's in my lungs the first round?

I told a new pulmonologist I got all about this and he said to try this daliresp. First month you take 250 mg and the 2nd month you are suppose to take 500 mg. Well, the first month was terrible....There are like 20 different side affects and I think I had all of them. The headaches were like migraines. The diarrhea was out of control. The body aches were bad, too. But I googled it and researched and it said they side affects were usually gone by 30 days. And I stuck it out and they did go away.

Then, it was time to take the higher dose of 500 mg. I tried to stick it out with it's side affects but was unable to only go 10 days on it and I gave up.

But, with the doctor's permission, I found that I could break it up and just take like 1/3 of it or so and then hardly no side affects! And, it got the inflammation out of my chest which I have had since last spring! I kept having flare ups where I would have to go to the Emergency Room. (And, nobody wants to go there at a time like this!)

Now I do not have to continually take the antibiotics to try to get rid of chest congestion.....

The Daliresp is for inflamation......

The doctor also mentioned that I might have to go on a maintenance azithromycin BUT, he cautioned, it can cause me to go blind!

Well, I surely do not want that, then.

Glad I tried this daliresp, though. I take 250 mg or less every day , sometimes missing a day here and there, but it is a maintenance plan that I can work with after I got rid of the side affects, that is...

Hope I was of some help....

Hi many thanks for your interesting reply, really helped me. Feeling a little better again today. Those side effects you had were terrible, I had some a couple of months ago but nowhere near as bad as you. Thank you once again for the info, keep safe x

You are welcome...Yes the side affects were awful. Like I said Google mentioned about 20 and I counted and I had about all of them which I cant remember right now unless I Googled it again. Get better....It's a New Year!

I can't be sure but I have had similar problems when the initial infection didn't clear with just one course of antibiotics. It does sound like this may apply to you too if you are starting to feel better. Finish your current course and hopefully it will see off the infection this time.

Hi Kimlu,

On the rehabilitation course I went on, they said we should always have 14 days of antibiotics.

Last January, when I had a really bad breathing problem I was given both steroids and a double dose of doxycillin - seemed to clear the chest, after taking tow lots of antibiotics before hand.

Gosh, over the last year and a half, I've been almost living on antibotics and prenosidne. It seems like I get better for a bit then it gets bad again.
