Has anyone had continus chest infections.

I keep getting infections, and having Antibiotics.

However these past few weeks I am struggling with Breathlessness when I do things.

I feel completely tired out, lethargic, and very poorly.

I just dont seam to be getting better.

Does anyone suffer the same.?

Perhaps the time has come for you to provide a sample of your sputum to your doctor This will ensure the anti biotic you are given is the correct one for the bacteria to be treated effectively.

Hi.I've taken a sample and I'm on the right Antibiotics.

The doctor wants me to have another CT Scan, but at the moment I dont want to go to the hospital with the virus being so bad in my area.

Hi, I'm give my sputum samples to my GP surgery and they send them to the hospital for analysis. If I was getting regular chest infections like you are I'd be concerned too. Are you under a consultant? If so, ring the secretary and explain what is happening to you. Otherwise you have to contact your doctor. This must be so wearing.. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

I felt like this during the summer. It took a long time to get me on the right antibiotics and then for them to make me feel better. At the moment my breathing is fine, but I still get very tired. I think it would help if I could get more regular exercise, but lockdown and cold make that difficult. I have bronchiectasis too.

I’ve been diagnosed with Bronchiectasis for 4 years. I had exacerbations every 3 months for the first year or year and a half. I accidentally found that I wasn’t clearing my lungs. I was using the huff and cough method while seated. I happened to get down on the floor one day after my coughing session. Laying on my side, I started coughing up loads of stuff. From that point to now, I do my clearance on the floor...left side, right side, back and on my knees and elbows. I do huff 3 times before coughing and I work puzzles to pass the time. I haven’t had an exacerbation since starting my postural drainage techniques. We are all different, and I think that we each have to find 'our' way to successful daily lung clearance. I do believe that clearance is the key to reducing exacerbations. Good luck to you and hope you feel better soon.

Hi,

I have the same issue and I have lost count the number of infections this year.

I have been given Carbocistine to help clear the phlegm and it has done wonders. Also, I have been given Diltiazem to help with blood pressure. The combination of the Carbocistine and Diltiazem has cleared my shortness of breath. I am hoping both medications will break, for the time being, the cycle of infections.

I used to be like that but am not now and I put that down to a number of things. I had a lung wash , I retired, I exercise and take supplements such vit C, D, fish oil and Zinc . I also stay away from under 5s as they carry a lot of bugs which don't affect them like us. Avoid anyone with a cold and eat well. Obviously, this is my regime and it doesn't suit everyone. Good luck.

Hi.I'm afraid I do all that you do, but unfortunately, things are not to good at the moment I have Aspergillosis which effects my Bronchiectasis, also allergic Asthma, so at the moment they are trying different drugs , which I'm unlucky with some as I have allergies to drugs, so it's a vicious circle.

Thanks for replying.

Hi.. When I wS first diagnosed 10yrs ago(aged 55yrs) I kept getting chest infections... & then I was put on azithromycin as a prophylactic. Initially I took 1 daily for 3 weeks but then ( because my stomach was affected) cut down to just 3x weekly. I found a big improvement & the consultant has kept me on them ever since. 9 years! I believe many with Bronchiectasis take them. Good luck! Linda x

I have got severe brochiectasis. I do three long lung drainage sessions on a sloping bed - two of them being for 1 hour each time - the afternoon session being for 40 minutes.. Are you doing your lung drainage sessions? It takes some discipline.

I use a nebulizer

Carbocisteine capsules

Sterimar sea water spray (from the chemist)

Mometanone furoate nasal spray.

It sounds a lot of medication, but it is working for me. I've kept clear of infections for 7 months.

Airway clearance is essential with lung disease..also nebulizing 7 percent saline x2 a day will keep infections at a distance..exercise the best you can..drink slot of water, boiled 10 minutes
