Hi everyone. 17 singing for lung health groups around the U.K. continue to run sessions online for anyone who can access from anywhere. All these groups are welcoming anyone from anywhere. You don’t have to live nearby. You could try a few different groups til you find the one for you! Have a look here: the musical breath.com/singing-for-breathing-resources/ second row down on the left “singing for lung health groups online and open to all”. You can also access the CD as well as other resources including dance & breathing exercises specially designed for those of you challenged with breathlessness. Hope helpful. Phoene x

Thanks for the information doxy. I loved singing but when my rhinitis/Sinusitus problems combined with the bronchiectasis I found I couldn't sing. This affected my well being as I sang in a choir for years. Such good exercise but as soon as I try I start coughing violently.I hope others on the site can access a group as I know it will give them great pleasure as well as helping with their breathing.

Cheers

Have you tried the Singing for Breathing CD? It’s available to download, stream or purchase as a hard copy - I worked really hard to get the pace right & also to ensure physical warm up & relaxation first - do you struggle to breathe through your nose btw?

When I saw a consultant at ENT he asked me to try singing the music scales.....do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do. I found i could only get to Ti and no sound came out. He explained it was unlikely I'd ever be able to do so again. I nearly cried there in his office. Singing was part of my life and I wouldn't now be able to sing properly again. I also start coughing which is also a problem. I'm going to look into the CD you mention to see if it may help. Thanks again for your help doxy.

Such a terrible thing to say to someone who loves to sing - that’s still 7 notes!! I used to teach boys going through vocal change with less than that! Use it or lose it. I think you’d love the singing for lung health groups as many of the leaders trained by me to work specifically for dysphonic (hoarse) voices - also reasons are multifactoral - could be inhalers or neck tension or acid reflux or whole heap of things - hope you find CD helpful - little and often - 7 notes more than enough! You might even enjoy one of the online groups as you’ll be in comfort of your own home with mics off - there’s an example of a group session on you tube on my resources page - you may not sing like you did but you can absolutely still sing even with a reduced range

Thanks for this, doxy66. I've just reposted the website address on our Breathe Better Sing Together Facebook page, for those of our members who are still socially isolating.
