CT SCAN & PET SCAN'S FOLLOW UP POST (FINAL)

After my COPD annual review in August 20119 - I was sent for an X Ray which showed a shadow - Follow up X Ray the same.

A number of CT Scans and a Pet Scan would show I still had the shadow which had spread to the Left-Lung from my Right Lung.

Concern was shown from Specialist number one - However his replacement said the shadow was scar's on my lung, and maybe exposure to Asbestos in my early life - he then for - that discharged me.

So I had 16 months of hell - who would not have? - I have had lung scarring since the 1990's when t showed up on a routine Chest X Ray.

Makes me wonder why it was in one APEX in August but 4 months later a scarring had in their words (spread) from one Apex to another.

So I said I would update when these episodes of scans had ended - The finding was that I did not have Lung Cancer but scarring.

So all investigations ended, case closed so to speak - Do I feel better - Short answer is NO -But this sorry episode of 16 months of misery has ended and thanks to all those who posted my previous threads

Great news, you don't have lung cancer, be thankful for that even though it was a long 16 months of misery for you.

Hopefully now you can settle into being more relaxed and free from all the tests and scans can continue with living life as best you can.

Thank's Bkin - Yes I hope I am free of tests for a while, the worst was the contrast and the PET SCAN I had never had before, injected with Radioactive glucose. As you say over now, time to move on.

Oooft what a rollercoaster, so glad it wasnt cancer.

I had a similar issue.

Oct 2018, i came down with the flu, had a chest xray, showed 2 masses on top right lung, said i had stage 2 lung cancer.

7 weeks of hell, CT scans, bloods, breathing tests and a full PET scan at the cancer unit.

All came back positive fir cancer.

Was to have my top right lung removed with lymph nodes.

VATS procedures carried out, pathologist in op room to test the massess befire removal, turned out not to be cancer but FIBROSIS, ASPERGILLIOUSUS and PNEUMONIA.

OOFT, 3 parts of my lung removed.

Im back to being fighting fit again.

Gosh 1968, you had one hell of an escape. TB was suspected in my case before cancer but, I have a lot of pain which was just like a Pancoast Tumour which I was convinced I hade, in the end Scarring or Fibrosis - better than the alternative, glad you came though and are well.

I had the shock of my life for 7 weeks prior to the op.

Even the PET scan confirmed cancer, lit up like a Christmas tree.

My surgeon said hed never seen this before, who ever is upstairs looking after me is doing a fantastic job.

It is a shock, after Pet Scan I got a call saying it had spread, then specialist saying it was not Inflammation - So, what was it? Cancer? - Turned out to be more scarring, but I had feared the worse and still wonder, how can a scar, spread. You are back fit, keep safe.

Hi Ern007. Thankfully it is not cancer 👍

Scarring (fibrosis) can be produced from from an infection, or other damage. It is probably new scarring rather than it having spread., although not impossible. I was told I had scarring after a PET scan 3 months ago around a known (3 years old) large benign nodule, luckily it was not more cancer that I had developed.

I have a full body CT scan this Saturday to follow this up, along with another issue yet to be determined.

Hi 2greys, I has scarring going back to 1990 - This it seems is new. I still am puzzled. Shadow on Left Apex - Rang me to say it had spread to Right Apex after PET Scan - No way of knowing then that it was fibrosis - So if they are right, fibrosis can spread in a matter of months,

Sorry about your plight - I had a full body CT with contrast, not sure what they where looking for,

It may be Pulmonary Fibrosis, in which it is a progressive disease. It is not a common disease though and can only be really be diagnosed by a consultant.

I am not overly concerned with my diagnosis, yet. I have learnt not to worry, it does no good and does not affect any outcome. I have become quite adept at the never ending waiting game for one thing or another.

Interesting because I had thought of Pulmonary Fibrosis - I think they are playing a waiting game, they think also could be to do with chemicals I have worked with, They don't think it is cancer but apart from scarring which I had anyway, I don;t think they are sure,

I am pretty good at laying the waiting game normally but last two years with shock after shock, it did un-nerve me to a degree.

Out the other side now, nothing pending for the first time in many months. You are right about one thing, you have what you have, no amount of worrying will change that..
