Its now 4wks since I had my sinus op and septoplasty . Up until last week I was doing ok but I’ve been having headaches every single day and now I’ve got the same green rubbish back up my nose , nasty smell , my cough is back , and I feel naff - luckily I have my follow up appointment in 2 days and have some emergency co- amoxiclav but feeling so disappointed that the op either hasn’t worked or I’ve got an infection . 😩😩

That’s a shame Lesley, let’s hope your appointment sheds light on what’s going on. Good luck with that. Xxxx

So sorry you are experiencing this. Ask if its ok for you to use a saline nasal spray to help clear the nasty stuff, perhaps in your follow up appointment in 2 days the doctor can prescribe something for you to use ongoing until it clears again.

Hope you can soon get this cleared up and you are feeling better in yourself.

Its awful not being able to breathe through the nose.

Best wishes for a quick resolve.

Hi Bkin

Thanks for that tip - I will

I’m still using saline and steroids but I will ask for something else .

Thing is - I can breathe through my nose as they sorted my septum - one positive 👍

oh that's something you can breathe through your nose.

The specialist told me they could not operate, my prescription now is Naseptin (the anti biotic cream you introduce physically inside your nostrils) I did have the steroid nasal spray but I don't think my nose liked that very much at all so try not to let mine get beyond Naseptin stage. I use the saline nasal spray, vicks or sterimar for cleaning and for stuffy relief I use A Vogel Sinuforce nasal Spray or the Sterimar Cold and Sinus nasal spray not all together of course :D I really like the A Vogel spray.

The ENT guy I saw years ago said once the soreness is feeling much better to put the pure aloe vera gel up into nostrils (I think its 99% pure gel) the one in a tube. Its very healing and moisturising.

So with all that I'm now doing the DIY sinus health care regime :D

The stuff the ENT specialist can prescribe initially should get you to the aloe vera stage.

Best wishes. BK

Yes an improvement- wow that’s quite a regime - but if it works - brilliant- hope I can get a similar sort of workable routine .

Thank you for the info - I really appreciate it xx

Oh! No, that's not good. Let us know what the doc says on your follow up, it may be quite normal or you may just need some antibiotics. I will keep my fingers crossed for you x

My follow up was quite enlightening and a bit if a surprise as not much info was given to me pre-op .

Apparently my septum was fixed , polyps removed- nothing sinister there , and sinus openings widened for drainage .

But they can’t cure chronic sinusitis which is what I have . It’s a condition I have to manage with twice daily nasal washes and periodic antibiotics. And I was right to take my emergency antibiotics which I normally keep at home . The op was a success I just hope now that things improve as time goes on .

Sounds like things went well and its good that they removed the polyps and fixed your septum, but am surprised they cant cure the sinusitis and am having second thoughts on whether I should go ahead with my op. If its just to wash everything out then it will come back so not sure its worth it. I do hope things improve for you, I am sure it will x

Agree maybe that’s why they didn’t tell me beforehand ? Don’t know , but it was worth having my septum fixed and the polyps removed . I think it depends on the person - I might be surprised in a couple of months - I’m keeping an open mind . In hindsight I would have asked the surgeon a lot more questions. If I was you I wouldn’t deny myself the opportunity to make things better or at least the chance - if you don’t try you don’t know .

Thanks for this Lesley, I will take on board what you say and will make a list of questions for the surgeon before making my mind up x

That’s good 😊

If you asked me if I’d have it done again - I would as I think any improvement is better than none . Good luck .

My surgeon also said that my sinusitis could be caused by allergies so I’m going to get tested any foods that I might be allergic to xx

Yes I have felt this way, I just need some improvement and to stop using a box of tissues every week and maybe get my sense of smell back, as well as getting rid of the cough. I have just had an allergy blood test and hope to get results next week, I asked for this as the antihistamines dry me up and do help. But I dont want to keep taking these as they make me drowsy. Sorry I am whittling on. Thank you for taking the time to update me and giving me encouragement x

I think you’ll def get some improvement.

That might be helpful then going into it .

My sinuses were so bad that I has constant headaches as well having to take antibiotics constantly but the infection wouldn’t clear as I was all blocked up . And the exhaustion- on another level .

You’re not whittling in at all - it’s good to talk to someone else who knows how you feel .

No worries- I’m always up for a chat 😉xx
