The air quality last night.

Here in Southampton for a period of 4 hours, 7-11 pm, the AQI was at 312 = The HAZARDOUS level being an AQI of 300-500, which is the highest range. Yes, bonfire night here was compared to the pollution levels in Delhi, India.

Yesterday morning (from 8 am) also saw a blanket of wood smoke across the estate, with a population 15,000 souls.

Yes, I can well believe it and when it's put down in front of you in plain facts and figures and compared to something similar, it really hits home.😡😷😪.

Organised Firework displays were banned , I'm sure, so people in my neighbourhood must have all put money together and bought half a firework shop! Like you, the majority was between 7-11ish pm. Hazel 🐕was a shaking, quaking, nervous wreck who was so frightened my son carried her outside into the back garden and stayed whilst she did ger bits and bobs. She was still shaking like a leaf. She has a multitude of things we've bought over the years , that "claim" to calm your dog but nothing really helps . I'm so glad its over now. (Apologies, it wasn't my intention to write 50 lines about our dog.)You used the AQI site to get the levels in your area, so I'm going to do the same. Good post 2greys! 🐿🌈.

There were very few fireworks around us thank goodness. I feel for people and the poor animals. Xxxx

For once the NW has come off best. I am sitting in sunshine toasting in south facing room.. temperature in sun is reading 91. 9 ! So sorry both my sisters further east than here have fog warning. I must look at the air quality site you mention. The weather app shows fog over all the east side of UK. Hope it clears for you all soon

I was thinking the same about the NW- good clear skies yesterday and today. I looked at the Gov.UK SITE today and we even have a lower R rate compared to other regions. x

I dont know what the measurements were here in Manchester but it was pretty miserable trying to breathe even in my own home. I am sure that I am not on my own in saying I really wish they would ban bonfire night. The air pollution must last for days and do so much damage x

I looked at the Met Office àpp and Manchester was under a fog warning . I am only 25 miles to west and escaped it completely but not so good today now. I agree completely about fireworks and bonfires.

Real problems can occur at this time of year, if we get a temperature inversion, which effectively puts a cap on the atmosphere and trapping the pollution under it without any breeze.

Yes you were unlucky . That level is appalling.

The east side of the country had the fog warning over it . It was lovely here. We havent had much sunshine here since may so was really welcome, not so good today and there is no breeze so i will go and look at that AQI site again. Thankd

The conditions are appealing indeed! Thankfully people listened to the warning issued by the Hertfordshire authorities in Bishops Stortford and there weren't too many bonfires. My Climacell apps showed low levels of air pollutants (2 thankfully) and I did not have to suffer like last year.
