Winter flu jab. Who is entitled.

After receiving a message from MJog messenger( doctors portal), asking if I wanted a flu jab,I replied I did. My wife phoned to book an appointment only to be told they never sent the message. I was not allowed it. So I did recheck they did send it. I have a large PE and smaller one in the r/h lobe. It just says lung and chest problems COPD. Should I get it done elsewhere. Can get at work.

Anybody over the age of 50 is entitled to a free flu vacc this year. My son in law is 51 and has had his after his peactice wrote to him.

If you are under 50 it might be simpler to have the vacc at work rather than argue with those at your GP surgery who don’t seem to know what they are doing. Your COPD should qualify you for a free vaccine, whatever your age.

Yes I am over 56 but it is the underlying health problem. That I thought would allow them to give me the jab. Not the same criteria in our practice.

All practices are under the same rules. Being over 50 you are entitled to have a free flu vacc. Having an underlying condition also qualifies you. It is govt policy. Stop messing with the idiots and insist on talking to the GP about what they have said to you.

I received a letter from my GP, Both my wife and I have just had a jab. Also my daughter. This was due to both my wife and myself being in the shielding group. From my understanding of the letter everybody over the age of 65 can get the vaccine. Then everyone in the at risk group that normally gets the flu vaccine plus people who live with them if those people were in the shielding group. All those in the shielding group of whatever age plus those over 50 without underlying conditions. My medical centre is giving those at highest risk first then others. However vaccination sessions started in mid September and go on until December. Mainly due to delivery of vaccines being staggered.

I went to my pharmacist , but they had run out of the over 65 vaccine , the other was available.

They were expecting stocks in .

Yes I did check but the receptionist would not book it. They sent a message to me. Will bring it up at the next PPG MEETING😀

Its routine people with COPD get the free flu vaccine in UK and equally so does the carer (ie partner or other)

If you can get it through work, go for it save you delaying trying to sort with the surgery. For next year you could write a letter in August saying you request a priority appointment in first available flu shot because you have ~COPD etc. You need it to help safeguard your health even if covid was not present.

Rang them today only giving it to over 65 with health condition. Was told to go to the pharmacy . They are all booked up. I will try work. My practice is not that great. More than disappointed.

I had mine as I was over 65 and at risk by my GP Practice but the wife was under 65 and had hers free at the Chemist the same day as my Carer! The GP practice have not called her in at all , but we cannot get into the practice without an appointment to tell them she has had it ?

The very last thing I want to do is put the cat among the pigeons, but has anyone else on here had second thoughts about having the flu jab this year, having looked at Dr John Campbell's video "Flu Vaccination and COVID 19 risk"

: Jul 9, 2020? He does say the flu jab is a good idea, but then goes on to suggest that some seemingly strong (if tentative) research may indicate those having the flu vaccine may be more at risk from respiratory diseases. Am booked for a flu jab next week and wondered about the response to this from my friends on here.

I thought about it then thought it likely is a higher risk not to have it and for those either too unwell to work or beyond pension age we would normally be shielding during winter months even without covid for same reason - ie to avoid exposure to bugs.

Thanks so much Bkin for taking the time to reply. Another way to see this is that we are shielding over the winter, we're less likely to be out and about catching bugs. But I take your point. I have just reposted this as a Post which I should have done in the first place! Dr John is really good; will look at his video again and decide (by Tuesday when I have an appointment!). Easy to overthink everything right now, and drive ourselves a bit potty!

Surely a lot of people having the flu jab are already having treatment for respiratory conditions. That's the reason for having the jab. I've just had my 31st injection. I have 2 respiratory conditions. X

That is lot of injections. Do they help? I think my practice is letting me down. Others are offering it to over 50’s with conditions. Yes I will benefit from getting it from work. First come basis though. Sorry to hear you have two conditions . I have only one and can get on with most things. Try not to exert myself though it will have consequences.
