Nebulised saline?....🤔🤞

Hi, just wondered what your thoughts are on nebulised saline to help with expelling mucus? I have a nebuliser for exacerbations but haven’t used it yet...bit nervous to try if I’m honest! I should do a practice run to test it! I try to drink copious amounts of water to keep my lungs hydrated & the mucus easier to huff, but sometimes, as I’m sure many of you will know, it’s really difficult to expel. I read a post about someone using nebulised saline on a daily basis to help this? This sounds great to me as I bet it would really help.

Do many fellow COPD sufferers do this?

Any thoughts most welcome

Hi Lynnetp, I’m carer for my husband Pete who uses a nebuliser twice a day. He nebulises saline and three other drugs, no problem at all and the saline does help. Xxxxx

I use my nebuliser twice daily.

It’s made such a difference to me.

I don’t have to cough for ages.the mucus comes up more easily.

Really? That sounds great! Thank you so much for replying. I spoke to my Copd nurse earlier & she’s arranging a prescription for me. I’m hopeful it will help me too 🤞xx

I usually do it first thing in the morning, whilst. I sort my tablets out.

Then in the evening sometime before bed.

I hope it helps you,it made a huge difference to me.

Great, I’ll definitely do it first thing and then I guess the 2nd one will kind of work itself into my day, more than likely bedtime!

I’m so glad it’s helped you so much 😊x

Find that’s the hardest thing, slotting everything into my day.

I never realised how much time it took to be ill

Hi yes I have a nebulizer and was told the same. Very good with me. Have one in morning and one around 7 in the evening. Not every day but as as when I need it.

I don’t have COPD bit I nebulise saline twice a day - as soon as I wake up and again, after my evening shower because I find the steam from the hot shower loosens up the mucus. I find it really helpful especially in the mornings when I have a lot of rubbish on my chest from having been asleep.

I hope it helps you a lot.

Thank you, that’s really helpful. I’ve literally just got it so will definitely try it in an hour or so. I’ve just had to have a salbutamol nebuliser (for the first at home!) so will have to hang on a while I guess! Lot of “firsts” today for me! I’m hopeful one in the morning will be helpful as yours is 🤞

Thanks so much for replying x
