I JUST THOUGHT ID LIKE TO POST AND LET NEW COPD OR EMPHERSEYMA PATIENTS KNOW, ITS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD WHEN YOUR FIRST TOLD YOU HAVE A LUNG PROBLEM, NEARLY 4 YEARS AGO MY RIGHT LUNG KEPT COLAPSING, I WAS IN AND OUT OF HOSPITAL CHEST DRAINS OXIGEN AT THE TIME I WAS 67 AND HAD RUIMATIOD ARTHRITUS, AND NOT VERY MOBILE SO DIDNT NOTICE THE SLOW DECLINE OF MY BREATHING, IN THE END I HAD A THIRD OF MY LUNG TAKEN AWAY AND I STILL HAVE BULLIES EMPHERSEYMA AND SOME DAYS ARE BAD.. BUT I HAVE BEEN VERY WELL LOOKED AFTER BY GP AND HOSPITAL,MAYBE THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH MIX UP AT HOSPITAL AND JUST NORMAL MISUNDERSTANDINGS ON BOTH SIDES, SO IF YOU GET TOLD YOU HAVE COPD DONT THINK ITS ALL DOWN HILL BECAUSE ITS NOT, DO WHAT HOSPITAL AND DOCS TELL YOU AND TAKE YOUR MEDS, ALSO IF YOU SMOKE , STOP,IT WAS TOO LATE FOR ME ID PACKED UP 10 YEARS BUT I HAD SMOKED FOR OVER 40 YEARS, SO THE DAMAGE HAD BEEN DONE,

SO STAY POSITIVE AND GRAB HOLD OF ANY GOOD THINGS ALONG THE WAY

REGARDS BRIAN

Well said, Brian, for your positive attitude. It’s understandable that people worry when they are first diagnosed. Even the GP gave my husband some info he’d printed of the internet saying he might only live 5 years. Well that was well over 12 years ago and although he isn’t very well he’s still here. Also they seem to be diagnosing COPD much more readily now and that’s a good thing as if you are aware of it in the early stages there’s more you can do to prevent its progression.

Take good care of yourself

Exactly !! Positive thinking ! My husband was diagnosed 16 years ago aged 57 and worked until he was 69 . It wasn’t the life we had before diagnosis but it was ok The past four years have been tough but he’s still going and making the best of each day 😀

Well done briany, keep up the good work and keep on grabbing hold of the good things in life. Very best wishes to you.

My diagnosis was 16 years ago, granted I've added a few more health issues during that time but hey I am still here and still going strong :D exercise, good diet, seeking out the good stuff, avoiding the bugs wherever possible and avoiding daily input of negative wherever possible as well.

Good recommendations briany :)

Thank you for that uplifting post. It is important to think positively, and to listen to our nurse and doctor regarding copd etc, and to take meds when and how we should. Breathing exercises are important and help.

Walking( if possible), and fresh air are beneficial. I try and do the copd exercises which also help.

I count my blessings.

Stay safe .🙂

Hello briany. Thats reassuring to me I was diagnosed 1 year ago as needing a pacemaker and having severe obstruction copd On doing research the pacemaker problem didn't faze me at all But the copd diagnosis knocked me for 6. I was ready to organise the end of my life But I gathered my thoughts and the pacemaker has helped a bit This virus and too much stuck in doors has not helped. But Thanks for the encouraging words I have a friend who has just been diagnosed with lung cancer and said he is not having treatment I told him he was stupid and to get his self onto this group and talk to survivors But not sure if he will Take care Brian.
