Just wondering how many of you are likely to go out into a pub or restaurant for a meal, if you have been shielding and are still at high risk.
My husband thinks I am being over causious!
I see it this way I can't go back to work so why should I go out for lunch?
I won't be going out to lunch for a while yet. I think we have to be cautious and do what we feel comfortable with. It would be silly to spend three months in doors seeing no one and then to risk it by having lunch in a room full of strangers. But thats just the way I feel you have to do what YOU feel comfortable with.
I would only go out for lunch if I could sit in the garden and not go in premises, not even to use loo. You are being sensible. We are all so fed up not being able to do what we used to, but I dont want to die of covid, same as you. Hope this helps. Take care x

Gosh, that must be a worry for you.
My team's line manager is not having any of his staff back who are shielding, but risk management is part of his job. I work for NHS.
Are you able to stay off after 1/8/20? I work at a private hospital and they are insisting shielded return to work and not making any special measures for us. Obviously PPE. I’m going to have to loose my job.
I have replied to your PM. I am working at home for the foreseeable. Contact your union.
I've been watching the news unfold with a vague sense of disbelief. So, employers are going to decide if it's safe to return to work ? That'll work well ! What do the scientists say ? Oh there aren't any.
There should be risk assessment carried out. . But the letter which I got was confusing, I am in the clinically extremely vulnerable group and then says I should follow shielding guidance rigourously but in next paragraph it says, shielding will stop on 1st August. Also to then stay at home as much as possible. Confusing!
So yes basically, they are sending everyone who is shielding out to face a virus that is still around!?
Absolutely. I am in same group. And if you look again it says shielding is being ' paused '. Honestly , I feel like I'm in the pages of Alice in Wonderland. Nothing makes sense!
It's quite simple really.
If you can work from home do so.
If you can't work from home, your employer must take as many measures as possible and reasonable to minimize your risk.
When I return at the start of August all staff are wearing face masks and my desk has been positioned as far away from other people as possible.
Hand sanitizer has been provided.
I certainly won't be going out to lunch, after shielding all these weeks I don't intend to take any risks now. Some people have said I am being silly, but I have my health and my families to think about. Hope you have a great day and stay safe 😊 Bernadette xx xx 🌈
No it's not silly you have to do what's right for you.
Hi both my wife and myself are shielding. It was her birthday on Wednesday. We went out to lunch. Obviously we had a number of worries however all were baseless. We booked online. On arriving we were shown to a table. We used an app to order. The whole pub was a one way system. All staff wore masks and face shields. With the exception of the meal being brought to the table we never got within ten feet of anyone. Having worked in infection control in the NHS I was very impressed how they were operating. However it was a very flat experience. Yes we went for a meal but it was like eating in an operating theatre and with the same sense of isolation as eating at home shielding. I know it's the new normal but I felt the isolation was the same just a different view.

My daughter said much the same thing. Both her and her partner have just had birthdays and went for a meal with my granddaughter. They sat outside and none of them are high risk , but they didn't really enjoy it.
I don’t want to go anywhere indoors at the moment. I was happy to sit outside a pub near the river last week but only because very few people around and it was table service.
I went out to lunch for my birthday but insisted we sat outside. They had a one way system in place To go in and out and stop at the door to prevent just walking in. We chose the pub restaurant as it’s by the canal and had lots of outdoor seating. Not many of us dining outside good distancing. X
I don't think I would enjoy it with so many people in one place so I likely would not be doing it, not even if they had outdoor space.
I have been hankering after our local fish n chips but still not been not even for the take away.
ho hum, could do with someone going to get it for me and to have in the garden with a nice cool fanta top beer. 
Hi, look up your local fish and chip shops and phone them up ,give your order and they will deliver it choose a weekday if it is Saturday it may be late delivery .we just did this ourself but , look up a site called just eat and they will deliver all sorts of things at a cost of 2 -50p not sure if you pay first .with local one I put a put a bag on the drive with the right money in and he out the food in. i picked it up in gloves 😀 boy did we en joy it ❤️
I have an appointment with my Oncologist on the 27th, close enough to the pause, just a few days from it. It says an awful lot in that it will still be a telephone consultation. Reading between the lines, "it is still not safe out there". Although there is currently a spike in Southampton, the infection rate has started to go up again
I have a phone consultation with my lung consultant on August 5th, and, more worrying, my ankle consultant - in October!
Rochdale are becoming stricter to try and avoid lockdown.

I go back to works 1st Aug, work from home a few days per week & in the office.
I asked my Director if our open plan office was Covid-19 secure by means of at least 2mtr spaced out, screens ets, he replied no but we have installed temperature checking points & sanitezers.
Will i think i will give the office a miss.
I haven’t or won’t be doing lunch or anything like that yet. Our friends keep asking us over but I haven’t been well and got out of it so far. I would rather be safe and have a take away. X
The child (with respiratory issues) has been officially out of shielding since July 1st, which has meant that I’ve already had to come out of shielding to some degree, too, but the only additional thing I’ve done so far other than drive her about where necessary is physically going into the chemist, and spend some time with our bubble. I have no intention of even going to the supermarket at this stage, never mind the pub, and no plans at all to go anywhere or do anything for the summer holiday period. The issue for me is that the risk of catching it is currently lower due to the reduced transmission, sure, but that doesn’t change the fact that if I did catch it I’m still potentially buggered! They seem a lot less concerned about the vast majority of cf patients now, though, particularly the kids: we have some data on outcomes for people with cf, but given the highly variable nature of the disease, it does concern me that decisions for the whole cohort are being made on less than 150 cases across the whole of Europe. If Bod did get it, I have little doubt she’d either be completely asymptomatic or in a total mess, no option in between, but the expectation is she has to be in school full time from the first day of term and her team have made it very clear to all families there would have to be exceptional circumstances for them to support a child not going then, so...tentatively, we’re starting to return out into the world. But we won’t be going to a cafe or a restaurant for a few months.
I f I could get out, I think I would stick to takeaways for the time being. I know some places have put a lot of thought into this, but there is more to it, than eating in the restaurant, there is getting there and back, and, if in a busy area, getting past some of the idiots on the pavement. I can look down on my high street, virtually no one is social distancing and masks/scarves etc are very rare.
I don't think I will be going into a pub or restaurant for some considerable time.
We had our Golden Wedding party booked for mid September but have postponed it indefinitely until the situation is more stable.
We have contacted everyone to let them know and all I seem to hear is a sigh of relief when I tell people. There are a number of other 'shielders' on the invite list and quite a few who would be travelling a distance and would have to stay somewhere overnight. All have said they were anxious about the party, even those with no pre-existing medical conditions.
This tells me that we are not alone in not wanting to mix in such situations.
I couldn't see how the experience would be anything but 'flat' as Badbessie said earlier about their meal out. It's not much fun if there's no atmosphere.

I have a big birthday in August and I would normally be a party kinda of girl but not this year. Not sure what I will do. Might get a favourite restaurant delivery and invite my brother and SiL over, maybe Friend. Have a cruise theme formal night. See how things go, as Rochdale are at risk of lockdown.
No I wouldn't be comfortable yet after shielding for so long.
Neither would I stay in a hotel yet.
I'm not shielding, just social distancing, so I went out for an afternoon meal with a friend yesterday. We were the only people inside the hotel apart from the two serving staff. Another party had sat outside despite the pouring rain. The staff managed the whole experience very well. We have now booked a meal for four there in 10 days time, the same place as the last time we ate together as friends, the day before the lockdown in March.
I shall be enjoying fish n chips real soon
