Pulmonary Fibrosis, irreversible and terminal,

I was diagnosed 12 March 2020, when lung function hadn't improved after recent bacterial infection. My lungs were already, very scarred, so this infection was the tipping point. Question is, as it is a unpleasant way to die, and already discussed with my GP, palliative care, it will get more painful as condition progresses, which analgesic will be best for heavily sedating me?

Hello l8tories, so sorry to hear of your diagnosis but you will need to speak with your doctor regarding any medication. Nobody on the forum is qualified to advise you.

Take care. Xxxx

ditto what sassy59 say and perhaps a telephone call to the BLF helpline as well for their advice on your query.

Take good care.

I love the photo....I have a friend with fibrosis so I have some idea of how you must feel .

Try the BLF helpline to express your concerns on 03000 030 555

I wonder if the Mcmillan charity could help with your worries....I have one of their booklets and CDs on how to help deal with breathlessness, which are good.

It’s a difficult time to contact your own health professional, but perhaps if you ask your receptionist maybe one of your doctors or nurses could have a phone conversation. It would help put your mind at rest.

Best wishes ....again I love the smiley photo.

Hi I was diagnosed with Pulmonary fibrosis nearly 5 years ago .when I received the diagnosis I ,like probably everyone else , looked it up on GOOGLE which was a big mistake as it scared the life out of me.

I see my Consultant every 3 to 6 months for checkups.

Be positive and stay strong

Hi l8tories, I've been diagnosed with IPF in May 2020 I am due to start treatment in the next two weeks. If I can tolerate the drug it is said to reduce spread by half. I was told exercise and good diet will also help. Take care

I think you’ll find the Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis Group really helpful and there might be a support group local to you. All the best, B

Hiya..

Like you i have just been diagnosed ( End Feb).

It is a bombshell but i am determined to face it head on and will not accept the views on the Web that it is terminal.

A great friend of mine was told 25 years ago to sort his affairs out as his cancer was going to take him within 3 months.

He stuck his chest out, walked out of the surgery and vowed never to give up.

Mind over matter kept him going for 18 years.

My Father used to say, “if you worry you die and if you don’t worry you still die so why worry”.
