Indefinite shielding

My doctors has just informed me (as I am at high risk )that my original 12 weeks shielding should now be extended indefinitely or until I recieve updated advice from them ,this was not unexpected but we all shield in some form anyway in our everyday lives because of our illnesses.

I guess scuba diving is out now,as is wing walking ,bungee jumping off blackpool tower ,a lap round the tt course and even more exciting having a polite cup of pretend tea with my 5yr old grandaughter lainey ( we sometimes pretend to be different characters during out tea and scones plays) .oh well onward and upwards everyone

As always breath easy

Dave

Hi soulboy remember shielding isn't law but only guidelines. It is up to the individual to decide for themselves at the end of the day. Don't forget mental health is also important. x

I understand that it's just guidelines hc54 and I've always judged risk factors since being diagnosed with copd in almost everything I do , when I concider it's right to start venturing out socially I'll start to but thanks for the reply that was kind of you

If nothing else, you have been given clear guidance from your GP who obviously has your best interests at heart. I, and I'm sure that I'm not the only one, feel that there is still a great deal of risk out there for those of us in the extremely vulnerable category.

You can go out safely when you want to and tea with your granddaughter sound much more fun to me than extreme sports, but then I never was very adventurous!

"there is still a great deal of risk out there for those of us in the extremely vulnerable category."

None of us must lose sight of the fact that there are many other bacteria and viruses out there that needs avoiding as well, some of those can be just as deadly. Once/if this coronavirus pandemic is over we will all remain extremely vulnerable and must not get complacent.

Only too well aware of all that too. I've been very wary of catching any bug if at all possible for many years now.

Oh that’s a shame scuba diving is so much fun! Lol. I suppose I’ll get one too - I have been a little more confident recently - I’d love to go shopping but not that confident... met my daughter in my garden and would like to see my grandchildren too - but I want to be safe. I just hope it gets clearer and we can live normal whatever that is

Hi kate,

I'm glad you got to see your daughter and your feeling more confident lately, confidence is an admirable quality and I'm sure your favourite shops will still be waiting for you once this nightmare is over x

Oh well Dave, maybe next year. Shame about the TT though.

Maybe sometime soon you can see your lovely granddaughter. Gloves and a mask perhaps if you can wear one?

Take care xxxxx

Indefinitely is a long time, perhaps 6 week segments would have been better and easier to handle psychologically

I have never got a letter only from government, my nurse said back in March to stay away from shops but can go for a walk ,but I have just stayed in,now I’m frightened to go out

It's hard not to feel some fear or apprehension cs but thankfully we can temper that with common sense

Golly what can one say.

Am half expecting exactly the same advice.

Each of us is different-when told I could no longer fly 15 years ago I accepted it.

But if told to shield indefinitely and not be able to see children in Europe that would be tough.

As soon as we are given the all clear will definately be joining you in bungee jumping, wing walking scuba diving and walking the Amazon.

Stay well.

If you do those activities I'm hoping to do perhaps you should change your name to 6 lives 😄

I feel your pain. 😑 I know it's for our own good, but sometimes I feel so very frustrated. I try to make small trips out, with great care I might add. But if I don't, I feel like I am losing my marbles. I hope you can at least see Lainey. Take care Dave. xx 🙋🐕

My respiratory nurse was out to check my blood gasses yesterday’s I asked her what her thought s were on me shielding. I’m in the extremely vulnerable category. She says it is upto me personally but it’s going to be a long time before they can say it’s safe to go out and for a vaccine to be found. So it depends on whether I isolate as I am or live a life. At the moment I’m going to shield till the end of June and then I’m going to venture out taking all precautions. I can only go out when one of my children take me in the wheelchair and I use to only go out once a week but at least it was life. At the moment I’m just existing.

I hope that you will feel safe enough to have one of your children take you out in your wheelchair soon. Life should be more than an existence even tbough it isn't for so many at the moment. My best wishes to you for some respite before much longer xx

I'm 99% shielding. Just started venturing to my allotment (raining so not today). Otherwise I'm staying indoors.

First time I was given doxycycline the dr gave me the warning about physical exercise and the drug not mixing. I laughed so much I choked (cleared some mucus). With my health walking to the loo and back (about 40 foot for the whole journey) leaves me taking a breather, so I don't think I'll take up extra exercise while on antibiotics.

As for all those tea parties and games with the grandchildren, sigh, they'll be among the first things on my list when it's safe to go out properly. I'm missing them all.
