Broken my shielding

Well I haven’t seen family since lockdown and haven’t been out of the house since January but the last two days everyone has been.

My husband collapsed and there was no way I can manage him on my own so my family as well as sorting out the medical side of it came and did all the practical things. I’m extremely vulnerable being on oxygen and non invasive ventilation but sod that when my husband needs help. He went to hospital checked and sent home with antibiotics where later on he promptly collapsed again. The worry was having had a brain haemorrhage and having a shunt in that the shunt had stopped working . Still waiting for news at the moment. Luckily my family are very sensible and have been very careful with keeping away from people as much as possible so I’m not feeling that I’m at risk anymore than I was before and to be honest not sure if I will carry on shielding from them . Will not go out myself but will allow them to come and see me.

I would of done exactly the same, you have to follow your instincts, I think in the wake of what's been happening in this country over the last couple of weeks, it's become a free for all utterly selfish people gathering in large crowds protesting when their was absolutely no need, without the government putting a stop to it, so my attitude is now I will do whatever I feel is best for me and my family, the government have slapped everyone who has been shielding/staying at home for the greater good in the face, so as far as I'm concerned now they can get stuffed, I will make my decisions for myself and family. I do hope your hubby is feeling better.

Hope your husband makes a good recovery. You do still need to take care of yourself and keep shielding measures in place as much as you can. All best wishes

What a horribly anxious situation for you, even in normal times, and even worse right now. There comes a point at which only the people involved can really prioritise what is important, and I think that you and your family have made all the right decisions, and I'm sure you're being very sensible about taking care. As others have said, look at all those idiots out there, who are making absolutely no effort to think of anyone else.

Please let us know how you are getting on?
