Hi all . I have 5 years now in the UK . I cannot leave as my kids love the country and climate . Short version of my story : living in Cyprus not problems till i was working in a food factory where i got a pneumothorax , but due of crysys from 2013 i decide to move on the UK . From 2015 i was here with family. In 2016 i was diagnosed with asthma and most of the time i was sick now while i am writing ,my nose is blocked. 2019 after a very bad sick ( spitting blood,one of the gp said take some honey with lemon) finally i been seen by a good doctor which told me i have a mild copd. I am affected mostly on the cold time ( autumn till spring ) . Any area wich is not so wet,I think near the sea maybe ?
This period i was out for a trip and seems like on the area with lakes is cutting my breath - no ideea why .
I am on ventolin and fostair . Fostair i have to drink some water after each use

I'm sorry to hear you've been unwell. I'm afraid I don't know how to advise you , but I will say anywhere by the sea may not be very dry at all. It would be very blustery, cold and wet. Especially in winter. My mum lives by the sea, and never in my life have I experience such wind and rain! Take care. xx 🙋
Tell me about it Cas! I live by the sea and the good weather is marvelous with a breeze. But the winter is brutal with cold winds roaring off the sea and constant rain. x
Summer is pretty brutal too with bitterly cold winds and of course the haar rolling in off the sea. Next move for me will be more inland away from the sea. 😱😏
I don't think you will get away from the wet / damp and cold during the winter months in UK, in recent years while the winters have been milder, they have been wetter.
By the ocean during summer month may help some.
The only other thing perhaps which may or may not help is a salt pipe. Cisca one I would recommend.
You could also consider an air purifier, the information is out there and if you search forum here using search box to right you may find more information about them too. The research is all online.
Hi, Gabicku. As you have been diagnosed with mild COPD, you may be helped by asking your GP to refer you to Pulmonary Rehab, which is an exercise class for people with lung problems. There are also exercises on You Tube that could help, and the British Lung Foundation has a free DVD about exercising you could order. Singing properly will also help, so while you're on You Tube, have a look at singing exercises to strengthen the diaphragm.
As for your question, a lot of people retire to Norfolk because it is one of the areas with a better climate than many places in the UK. I live in Cheshire, which also has a relatively mild climate - when I moved here from Edinburgh 19 years ago, I felt as if I had moved to another country (well, technically I had!).
It's much warmer and drier in Cheshire, and there are hardly any fogs or snow. In Edinburgh the harr comes off the North Sea regularly and chills to the bone. When I was studying there with some Polish students, they said that although their Polish winters are much colder in temperature, they had never felt as cold as when they were studying in a cold damp Edinburgh winter.
I always thought living by the sea would help with my asthma and latterly mild COPD as I always felt better on sunny summer holidays to Cornwall so I moved there 8 years ago on the coast. After 7 years I’ve had to leave as the dampness in the air for much of the year made me feel so much worse. And black mould used to grow in my modern house! I’m now living in much drier east Lincolnshire away from the coast and have been much better as it’s so much drier. I believe Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex are some of the driest and warmest parts. Hope you find somewhere and stay well.
Hello Gabicku. All i can say to you is it is well known that People from the south of the U K in Eastbourne, And Isle of Wight, and Cornwall Areas all usually have milder winters. But it is hard to say what suits you best. Perhaps a Doctor could advise you on this too. I have severe COPD. But take no meds at all. My Respiratory nurse assessed me and i can walk around and do everything with no problem I hope you get some Answers. There are plenty good people on these sites to help. Take care Brian
Thanks all for info. I will speak with my GP about pulmonary rehub . About the singing i will try this - i was a singe when young 😁🤗. Maybe i will manage to split somehow my live like oct-march to go back to Cyprus and rest of the year here as i cannot leave UK due of my kids . The small one make me proud with school in 6th form now
I've family in Suffolk. Often when it's pouring with rain in the Cotswolds where I live its dry over in the east.
I moved out of polluted London and have been much healthier since. Remember, not all coast areas have clean air, I believe Southampton is highly polluted.
Try looking at the DEFRA website. It should show you pollution levels over the UK. P
