Lung nodules

Hoping someone can help me understand what the following sentence, in a letter I received from MDT clinic regarding my bowel operation. I'm getting bogged down with letters that I cannot deal with, face to face is different you can ask questions. "A right colonic tumour is known as well as chest c.t showing lung nodules which are progressive in nature and are believed to be metastic" I'm wondering if this is maybe or might be, it's not been mentioned before, if after the bowel op will the nodules be treatable. I know none of us is medically trained but a few wise words will help, is it worth going thro the op. Who knows. Jane

Is there a medical professional you can ask or video call? I think it’s wrong just to be sent a letter that you have to decipher for yourself.

Have the op dear Jane and ask everything you need to. I’m thinking of you and hope everything works out well for.

Love and hugs. Xxxx😘

Hi Chubby2x22. I work in a radiology department and I'm familiar with some of the terms used with radiology reports. Obviously I'm not a doctor and it should all be explained by your dr, but from that sentence alone it means your imaging has picked up a tumour in your colon believed to be malignant if they think the nodules in your chest are metastatic (which means the are malignant tumours spread from your colon).

I had a friend who had stage 3 bowel cancer that spread to his chest the same way and he's been 4 year clear and is doing well. The nodules can be treated with radiotherapy and/or chemo.

Hope I managed to answer what you were asking.

Hi Jane, As Carole Says is there a Person to contact by Phone ? I would normally contact my Consultants Secretary, They normally act very Quickly and Your GP should have Received a Copy Letter, Maybe in the Morning Phone Either of them. I Remember I did have a Lung Nodule, it did not Grow so no need for action at that time. Go Ahead with the Op Hun, Before hand , Write all your Questions down. Wishing you a Calm approach, and recovery is well. Love n Hugs Dear Jane. XXX

Perhaps tomorrow when everything opens, you could ring the secretary of the person who has signed the letter.

Tell them you don’t understand the letter and need to talk to som one to get it explained..

Being sent a letter like this does not help you to make decisions.

Take care,am thinking about you

I think your kids and bill are right jane, they appear to be summising that the nodules could or maybe a spin off from the tumour i believe but only your respiratory consultant could confirm that and treat them according to his expertise and knowledge.just my take on things but as Carole says, perhaps a heads up with the MDT team is preferable than trying to second guess the letter?

Hi Jane,

Whilst I have not looked into colon cancer, the subject of cancers is extremely complicated one that as such really need experts to understand. I have studied one of them over the last couple of years, that is of Lung Cancer, because I have/had it and completely empathise with you.

A difficult question to answer without knowing how many nodules there are and just where they are situated in your lungs. One thing does stand out though, they are still nodules and have not yet grown into full blown tumours yet, so still at an extremely early stage. They should be eminently treatable.

If the nodules are all situated in one lobe, then that lobe, or a wedge of, could be removed via surgery. But only after full recovery from the previous operation.

If there are a fair amount of nodules spread across your lungs, then I think that chemo therapy or immunotherapy would be tried as a first option to kill of the nodules followed by SABR, a radiotherapy, as a further treatment to shrink/kill a stubborn remaining one.

In answer to is it worth going through the operation, of course it is.

Leave the worrying to your consultants it is what they are paid to do. Worrying will not help or change anything. A positive attitude is needed and really helps with recovery from treatment. I wish you good luck with what is a mind blowing diagnosis.

I agree with your family, Jane, there are two separate issues, don't try to deal with them in your mind at the same time. Have the operation and then tackle the nodule which could well be no were near as bad as you first thought. Calmly does it eh? 😘x

Hi Jane

You have had some wise words in the above posts.

I just want to wish you all the best for your coming bowel operation. My brother who had bowel cancer was successfully treated and he’s now five years on!

Take care

Could you phone your surgery and ask for a telephone appointment with your Gp to translate / explain your letter for you?

Hello Jane my friend, 😘

I'm sorry I can't advise about the letter. I think you need to talk to a doctor who can explain it and what will happen after the surgery to deal with the nodules in your lungs. You can only deal with one issue at a time. It is very overwhelming to get all these letters when you don't quite understand what it's all trying to say. Can you get someone on the phone? Surely they mean to talk you through all this and your options.

As hard as this is at the moment, clarity will bring you some measure of calm. So I really hope you talk with someone soon. I think about you everyday as I know the turmoil you must be feeling at the moment. I am here for you anytime Jane. Sending you a big hug and loads of love. xx 🍀

Look up metastasis via search engine. See your gp. Get the op done, definitely the best route to choose. Take care.

Hi after my LRVS op I October 2018 . I developed nodules in my operated lung . Had to have Petscan etc.The upshot was that they were probably cancerous . They said they were slow growing altho they were growing . Advice was to monitor for 3 months then CTscan to determine how much they had grown .At this time as it was a short time after my surgery I was extremely worried . 3months later another CT scan. Would you believe my nodules had disappeared completely . You have a letter saying metastatic which means spreading ...I think so I suggest you try to speak to your Consultant as on this site we can only advise and support you . My thoughts are with you hopefully for some good news

Best wishes Babs .xx

My friend has had lung nodules for some years and the do make her cough a lot. However, doctors prescribe no treatment just careful monitoring to check that they don't grow any larger.

I'm so sorry you're going through this my friend.

Please look up sarcoidosis, in which nodules can grow anywhere on the body. It's an autoimmune disease. My mum has it, but still going strong.

God Willling you'll get this sorted.

God Bless you always

Hi Jane,

Not been on here for a good while, but saw your post re: "lung nodules" and wanted to reply...

I developed mystery "lung nodules" myself nearly 5 yrs ago now.

Went through all tests including cancer explorations, biopsies etc, one of which collapsed my lung)!... in the end no signs of cancer thankfully! Though my consultants had no idea at all what the nodules were or what was causing them, they still wanted operate and to cut them out, so they could study them in the lab!!!

As the nodules were NOT cancerous, NOT life threatening and only caused me shortness of breath (although extremely severe at times), I of course refused the operation firmly. From this point on I was fed an experimental concoction of medications including various TB medications and the now infamous "Hydroxychlooquine" made famous by Trump himself!!!

As I did nothave TB, these medications made me severely ill, reduced my ability to breath to nearly nil and my health failed to the point where I was completely exhausted, in constant pain, could not eat or drink and was literally at the point of death. It was then that I stopped all medications myself... thank GOD!

I searched out and took up daily breathing exercises, Tai Chi, and began to cycle everywhere, it was incredibly hard at first but became easier as time went on. I searched out natural treatments too and cannot recommend enough SERRAPEPTASE, this is a natural enzyme which feeds on all fibrous or dead material in the system, then passes out of the body harmlessly. I would go so far as to say "it saved my life"!!! research it for yourself Jane, you can buy it from Holland and Barretts or online. Remember, it is natural, it has been around for over 30 years, it will not effect other medication and is worth a try for anyone as it will not do you any harm at all even if it does not work for you Jane.

All I can say is I have not been treated by either the hospital or doctors for nearly 2 yrs now... I still have shortness of breath following exertion, but I recover quickly with breathing exercises. Other than that, I have a pretty much normal life and can do most things within reason.

I know I have gone on a little here Jane and I really do know it's not easy, but try not to despair or to let the worrying take over, instead try to do your own research and find other options for treatments which may help you. I can supply links for breathing exercises etc if they are any use to you, just let me know.

In the meantime I wanted send you all my very best wishes for an improvement in your condition.

Take care Joe

I had several Lung Nodules last year ,they we're worried I had cancer else where, as they thought it might be metastasized,Turns out there was no cancer and a year later the Nodules decreased dramatically in size by themselves, I've been assured that this is fine and nodules often disappear by themselves try not to worry xxx
