Hi, my Wife has recently gone on to a concentrator at the rate of half a ltr for 16 hours,if she is mobile outdoors then it is 3 from a bottle. What does she use while moving around the house please ?

Can't get hold of respiratory nurse till Tuesday.

She has plenty hose from concentrator surely to get round the house don’t understand why she needs any for around house the 16 hrs is only the minimum she to use it when I was on 2lt for 16 per I did not need any oxygen for outside because levels were fine when I took my time I bought oximetry to keep tabs on my oxygen levels

as she not got 2 concentrator in the house one for bed room and one for down stairs am on 1lt for 15 hours so when i have had my tea and ready to sit down for tv for night i then put it one then go to bed and use the one up stairs till i get up in the morning but if she on 3lt when out and about tell her she to kock that off so let say your wife as her walking around one on for 2 hours when she out then she only need to use her 1lt for 14 hours but i an talk more and am betetr on phone talking about it the=an on here so if you need any more pm me and we can chat

Hi. Masteryoda,

I used to be on the same oxygen dose as your wife. I was told that it didn't matter if I was inside or outside that I would need the higher rate if moving about. The lower rate was for when I was relaxing. I used to have my oxygen on for 16hrs during the day so that I could be tube-free during the night. Hope this helps in some way.

I'm sure you'll have this confirmed by one of your wife's respiratory team, this is more to give her an idea of what to possibly expect. Regards.

I’m on oxygen 24/7 and have a very long hose that just drags behind me wherever I go in the house. It gets me half-way up the garden and to dustbins too! I have to wipe tube when I come in though as it’s usually filthy. Joy.

Hi can she ask for a portable concentrator for when she’s outdoors. I use mine in the garden or when going on outings (in normal times) Barbs x.

I’m on 9l when mobile and 2 at rest. The standard bottle lasts 45 mins at 9l so I’m very quick to switch it down as soon as I stop walking. I always have spare cylinders in the car and use a portable generator plugged into the lighter socket when driving.

As the bottle is 100% pure oxygen and the concentrator is only 85 to 90%, I’d say 4l/m when moving around the house is right.

The oxygen levels are for different situations. She needs the concentrator for nights because no cylinder lasts that long. The ambulatory level of 3 litres is for when she's doing anything active - going upstairs; doing housework (although I'd be tempted to turn up the concentrator for that) ; out in the garden; anything domestic that makes her huff and puff. She needs to keep her oxygen levels stable, that's all.

I am on oxygen 24/7 I started off at 2 ltrs/min resting but now on 10ltres/min resting.

My concentrator has a very long lead (air hose) so if I need to go around the house I can get to any room, this length was determined by the respitory clinic. At the time of installation.

I could have opted for a permanent installation, where they put a valve in each room so you just plug in.

I would have a word with your respitory nurse, I know it's a pain but after a time it becomes natural. Sorry that I cannot be more help.

This all makes interesting reading to me as maybe I can get some sort of advice here on the website. I have copd with 18% lung function stage four as they tell me and I certainly don’t have any energy but what stage of oxygen levels do I have to drop down to before I can get some oxygen sorted as I’m best at 91% and drop down to low as 84% at times. I guess I’m fed up of struggling anymore in all honesty. Any advice welcome please. Thanks ken

My wifes target is 88 - 92.
