Hi,

Has anyone who’s been isolating for twelve weeks had another letter asking them to stay at home until August? X

No I haven’t but someone just told me she’s had one and been told to stay isolating until August. I guess we have to wait and see X

I have been self-isolating as an extremely vulnerable person (husband also staying in to protect me) since early March as requested. I haven't had a further letter asking me to go beyond my 12 weeks but the Government website now says 30 June. I will do the approximately extra 3 weeks but I honestly don't feel I can do much more than that. I haven't seen any of my family - my children, my grandson nor my 2 year old great grand daughter in all this time. I don't have a garden or balcony so that makes this situation harder.

Our hair needs cutting. I myself lost a filling a few days after lock-down and the nerve is exposed though I am luckily not in continual pain(no dentist available anyway even in the emergency clinics - they don't have any PPE). I agree with some posts in that our group has been given no concessions whatsoever - we have done as asked and are rewarded not with extra freedoms like other groups but with even MORE isolation days to complete. Not fair is it. We are adults and do know how to be careful.

Both my husband and I are in our middle seventies but I would be very appreciative if Boris and his advisors loosened our leash a little or he may well have a battle on his hands if he restricts us for too much longer and we are expected to do even more time.

I have heard most of the arguments i.e "it's for your own good/safety etc etc", We are the ones doing this not them, we are the ones who are "not allowed" to see our families so the arguments for keeping our group in lock-down becomes weaker as time goes on.

Boris you can trust us to behave .... haven't we proved this

lol

No not Yet Hun, I'm staying Home till it comes, then very Cautiously go out. Stay safe. XXX

No, but as I stopped going out three weeks before we were told to, don’t trust ‘scientists’, or committees I am going to sit here whilst all of the eager go back into the world and I shall watch the second wave.

Perhaps not as long as you, I started mine on the 10th March, the writing was clearly on the wall by then.

I am a guide in Shakespeare's Schoolroom with many Chinese visitors. I had been concerned since before Xmas, stopped for 2 weeks in Jan, went back when the Chinese stopped coming and left in the last week of Jan after we had a party of Italians. We had no control over who came in. I am actually concinced that I had it in October. If have not been so ill for years. I have purchased the Abbot test and so will know whether I did have it as early as oct and if I didn't, confirms my decision to stay inside for as long as I decide.

I haven't received one I've been indoors 3 mths while we are being sensible and staying home is anybody getting a tad bit annoyed of seeing people having a whale of a time not social distancing down the damm beach 😠 so they can flout the law by packing like sardines down the beach with their family were here without seeing ours for longer who thinks that's unfair my neighbours been flouting the rules from day one and I will lose it if another neighbours lights up another smoky barbecue so not bad enough stuck here on our own but all windows and doors shut as I can't stand smells grrrrrrr

Yes, I have. Before anyone starts talking of the Gov. website saying something else, let it be noted that there is no law about it, it is advisory only, it is solely up to ourselves to make our own decisions and to whom you believe. Medically unqualified Gov. ministers, or medically trained professionals. I know who I am listening to, the hospital that has already saved my life once.

I agree, I did what the NHS and my doctor advised. Can I ask how much longer you have been advised to isolate for? X

4th of August, I asked my Oncologist about it and he said 12 weeks from receipt of the letter, I expect there to be another advisory towards further shielding. To be honest unless I can get the Serology test (Antibody test) I will continue with shielding anyway.

I started to isolate a week before I had the letter advising me to isolate for twelve weeks. I haven’t had another letter and my isolation ends in four weeks. I have stage three COPD and work on supermarket checkout so am not looking forward to going back. I feel safe at home. Look after yourself and stay safe X

If you cannot get a sick certificate from your doctor or another shielding letter I would be wearing, gloves, face shield and I think now its compulsory for shoppers to wear masks or face coverings but not sure if its something being enforced at this point, I don't shop so can't advise.

No nothing since the last one saying to shield for 12 weeks.

My 2nd letter arrived today from Worcestershire NHS COPD TEAM. The safest course of action is for you to stay at home at all times and avoid face to face contact for at least twelve weeks BACK DATED from 30th March 2020 except from carers and healthcare workers who you must see as part of your medical care.

I would suggest that these letters have a relationship to just how severe our conditions are with how many and what type of co-morbidities we have. Something that a bog standard Gov. website published by ministers, with generic advice, just cannot cater to. Whereas our hospitals, who have access to our health records, can identify us, and assess our risks on an individual basis.

Simples. Listen to your medics and not a "one size suits all" Gov. website. Of course, you are also free to to use Tarot cards if you wish. None of it is law and legally binding.

Whilst I would tend to agree with you I havnt managed to speak with anyone from my Respiratory team since I was discharged from hospital with Pneumonia last November. I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis & am on immunosuppressant injections. My shielding letter came from my GP’s as neither Rheumatology or Respiratory did letters. My Rheumatology team day I don’t need to shield & it’s not worth asking my GP as they don’t know what the drugs are that I take & ask me to spell them etc if I call.

I have 3 monthly lung CT’s normally & not even been given the results of the last one which I had in February. I’ve rung the secretary several times but she can’t help. So I’m shielding because I have a letter but can’t ask my medics.

I don’t know of anyone who received a letter dated 23/3/20 for 12 weeks (to 15/6/20)that has in fact received another letter going beyond that date .However it has been announced on Tv and in the press that it’s now extended to 30th June.

Dawk1 profile image

I received another dated 5th may, told to isolate for 12 weeks from that date.So yes i have had 2,2nd letter came from severe asthma clinic.

Hello! Yes, I had a letter from NHS dated 21 March, telling me to “shield” for 12 weeks. Then a second letter from local hospital dated 10 May, saying exactly the same, so that takes me to 2 Aug. But as I’m using my own common sense (and luckily don’t have to worry about work) it’s irrelevant really. I won’t be properly out & about until there’s a vaccine or effective treatment. It wouldn’t be safe.

The date given on gov.uk is 30 Jun, but as I say, you have to decide what’s best for you

No I haven't, I'm up to 23rd June.

I agree with you, just be sensible. I have been more or less isolated from friends and family since the end of January as I was awaiting knee surgery and didn't want to catch anything that would delay it!

I do go out for a solitary walk each morning, need to keep the knee moving, but remain aware at all times of where people are in relation to myself. Lucky enough to have a wide open space within easy reach of the house. I do also talk, one-on-one outdoors to other people. It helps to keep me sane! I am supposed to be shielding but this is my compromise.

I’ve been in lockdown since 5 March, but for my own health and sanity for the last three weeks I’ve been going for walks locally about half a mile there and half a mile back twice a week, I’ve not been in any shops, I would struggle to wear a mask over my oxygen cannula and wouldn’t go in to one without wearing a mask.

Not in my case, however I have a freind with a letter that says July. These varied dates are very confusing .

Initially had 2 letters saying extremely vulnerable and to self isolate for 12 weeks.

Recently had letter dated 27 April from resp dept local hospital saying to isolate for a total of 12 weeks.

It is unclear whether this is a late letter relating to the other 2 previous letters or whether to advise me to continue for another 12 weeks.

Will be suicidal if have to isolate any longer ,have spoken to just 2 people recently so won't be doing another 12 weeks.

Have a DNR order on my medical notes so wouldn't go into hosp anyway.

But advice is very confusing

Stay safe

Forgot to add on my previous post a minute ago ................. No one is listening to us , no-one is asking any of us how we are coping, no one seems to care .... and by no-one I mean the Government/advisors , nor do our families/relatives/friends really truely understand what total isolation really means.

I know it's only advisory and not law but families are strong influences for obeying when asked

Whinge over. Back to the 4 walls for another few weeks. By the way does anyone know what the date is let alone the day. Ha Ha

I haven't had a new letter from the Govt but had one 4 weeks after that one from my respiratory consultant stating that must isolate for 12 weeks from Dayton their letter so this take me to end of July. Chris
