Scientists in China believe new drug can stop pandemic 'without vaccine'.

A Chinese laboratory has been developing a drug it believes has the power to bring the coronavirus pandemic to a halt. The outbreak first emerged in China late last year before spreading across the world, prompting an international race to find treatments and vaccines. A drug being tested by scientists at China's prestigious Peking University could not only shorten the recovery time for those infected, but even offer short-term immunity from the virus, researchers say.

Sunney Xie, director of the university's Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Genomics, told AFP that the drug has been successful at the animal testing stage.

"When we injected neutralising antibodies into infected mice, after five days the viral load was reduced by a factor of 2,500," said Xie.

AFP / WANG ZHAO Sunney Xie, director of the Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Genomics, told AFP that the drug has been successful at the animal testing stage "That means this potential drug has (a) therapeutic effect."

The drug uses neutralising antibodies -- produced by the human immune system to prevent the virus infecting cells -- which Xie's team isolated from the blood of 60 recovered patients.

oooooh only tested on mice and a few humans so far.

Promising if safe for humans after further testing and trials, which for UK EU standards will take just as long as vaccine trials.

But we definitely need more than one option to treat this virus, vaccine and medications.

We must have more than one string to the bow, especially if a relied on vaccine fails in expectations.

The trials are not being conducted inside China though so the results will come from other countries.

"Planning for the clinical trial is underway, said Xie, adding it will be carried out in Australia and other countries since cases have dwindled in China, offering fewer human guinea pigs for testing."

Well maybe they should come here as we have lots of cases! x

Agreed. Something tells me that China will exclude the US though.

I hope the Human Guinea PIGS are Paedophiles & Murderers. Talked about this a Lot Lately. They would be my First Choice to Experiment on. If you Disagree. I won't apologise for saying this. Have a Great Sunny Day, Stay Safe. Continue to Stay Well. XXX C.

Still hasn't owned up to the cause of killing people all over the world and now say look what we have invented yes we are paying for what u have invented already 😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠

Do you really think any country would own up? This country does not own up to it's own failings and from what I have seen no country has, lots of excuses, but none actually taking any responsibility. China will be no different. What matters is how all countries proceed from here. No amount of laying blame will alter the loss of life and damage that has been sustained. The effort to solve this crisis and pulling together will, as has happened in the past, slowly fade from political importance until it happens again. Then once again, the world will be saying the same o ' same o ' "lessons must be learned".

If they Dont find out how who what and where it will happen again we need to know how and where and who somebody knows these answers or how if we just say lessons will be learnt how will they stop it from it happening again it's like a murderer getting caught though forensics then going to prison if we didn't do that investigating and that person wasn't caught it would happen again we know this virus started in China that's where the investigation must start all of us are living in fear of getting this virus as our lungs are already compromised I for one want their to be a investagation my life is on hold not being able to go out as is lots of people's and all those people who have died the worst death without family around them if china are guilty whether through that lab or through torturing animals then eating them in the live markets whichever caused it they must pay 😠

It can happen again starting in any country that eats bush meat/wild animals. Even in the UK, bush meat gets imported here, illegally I might add. It is not unknown for hedgehogs and squirrels to even be eaten in the UK. When people are destitute and hungry they will eat anything, not just places like Africa, the Amazon, etc. but also in so-called civilised countries as well.

If a country wants to eat say dog or cat that's their proactive not sure that's how u spell it anyway it's not what they eat that's the problem it's how their kept filfy disgusting conditions then tortured not just killed but slowly painfully tortured that's how diseases start and spread too much cruelty in this world

Prerogative is the word you are looking for. Whilst I agree wholeheartedly that there is to much cruelty in the world, that is not the reason that this virus emerged, in fact it has not been proven just how it did. I have even posted that it has been thought to have been transmitted to humans by stray dogs who have found and eaten a dead bat.

The greatest cruelty in the world is made by man against his fellow man.

I'd hope that with countries needing to know if it was in a lab go to this lab if it's because a dog ate a bat unlikely I would of said unless the dog was killed and eaten at yulin in which case how did it get transmitted from there its the worst pandemic but humans more cruel to humans no don't agree cruelty in this world sickening the way human's treat animals is far far worse I'm absolutely disgusted how people treat them god help us

So true x

This would be amazing if it works. Anything that reduces the severity of the virus would be extremely useful whilst we wait for a vaccine. It is such an unknown at the moment.

In the U.S. there is a similar treatment that has been given to humans. Difference is that the subjects bodies are stimulated to produce their own antibodies. So far sounds promising. Moderna is the research entity.
