Hi All,

I'm new to this, both in terms of the site and COPD. I've (due to COVID-19 outbreak) got a 'working diagnosis' of COPD, I'm unable to have a Spirometry done at the moment to confirm the diagnosis. Both the GP and my nurse have agreed it is a case of purely establishing what stage I am at, rather than if I have it. I'm currently awaiting results of blood tests to see if I have Alpha-1-antitrypsin, as they were concerned due to my age (38) that the symptoms I've got are not as common for my age group (Shortness of breath, consistent cough - had for years, volume of sputum produced, fatigue etc.). I've been really struggling for the past few months, although the symptoms had (to varying degrees) been present for a couple of years. So far I have Salbutamol, Anoro Ellipta and Spiriva Respimat, and I've had one (short) hospitalisation due to SOB so far.

Anyway, enough rambling from me.

This virus seems to be holding everything up regarding routine checks and tests but glad you have the meds already and also the alpha1 blood test. Keeping everything crossed for you and feeling better days ahead.

Protect yourself as much as you can from the virus now and through the winter months when more bugs are rife.

Thanks for the reply. The nurse I deal with has been amazing in ensuring I've had access to the meds, especially the Anoro Ellipta. Take care.

Once the COVID-19 outbreak is less impactful hopefully I'll get the Spirometry. I'm on the waiting list for it but they've been unable to perform them of late, understandably.

Thank you. The site certainly seems to be useful, even if it's to feel slightly less alone. I've got an amazing Wife, but sometimes people who understand what you're experiencing is more helpful.

Hi and welcome. I'm sure that this is a worrying time for you and your family. Your nurse sounds to be doing as well as she can for you at the moment. Hopefully you will be able to have a spirometry test in the near future but you have already had the blood test done for Alpha - 1 - antitrypsin which is good.

We are a varied bunch but this forum is a great place for support, general chat and fun. Let us know how you get on.

Thank you. Genuinely can't fault the nurse at all. It's obviously a testing time for NHS, but she's doing everything she can and calls me each week for a catch up.

Thank you, and absolutely agree. I gave up smoking 5 years ago, so hopefully that will help. I gave up after seeing my uncle (44) pass away from pulmonary fibrosis, within 6 months of diagnosis. The wake up call I needed

I stopped 10yrs ago, bullous emphysema, no change in it since 1st diagnosed, good FEV1%, few other lung scares/conditions but feel good and all is well. My surgical team/doctors put it down to me not smoking and good exercise regime.
