Day31 at home with covid or lung infection

Hi everyone and thanks for all your replies to my day 9 and 15.

It’s now day 31 and haven’t had high temperatures for about 2 weeks. I am improving but it’s so slow. I get so exhausted but twice in the last week I managed some very gentle exercises. For about 3 minutes. I get a good day then often 2 bad days. I can generally get to the toilet about 60 steps away. At first I had strategic chairs along the way. It’s still a major event though and I have to recover when I get back. I think I’ve had the covid as I’ve had all the symptoms except losing smell and taste. I had the now classic mild 5 days and day10 severe symptoms. About day19 i couldn’t stop panting, even at rest and coughing up thick grey mucus. That was another 111 call, paramedics who said try and hang on for 12 hours and new antibiotics should kick in. Otherwise 999 for ambulance. No sleep that night but they worked. Since then if I sit quiet my o2 levels and breathing are fine ( am on oxygen level 3 for sitting) I still get lower stomach pains. I’ve been on 2 sets of doxycycline and on second set of coamoxiclav . If it’s viral the antibiotics can only deal with secondary symptoms ..As you see from previous posts several people have replied saying they are 4,5.6,7, weeks into recovery. So if you are newly infected, try not to worry, just be kind to yourself and know however you feel, people are getting through it. I just wish I had a Duracell battery to recharge me.

Please add your recovery stories to help others know we can get through this.

From my information, it takes a good six weeks from the end of the Covid infection to recover one's breathing. I know it is hard to do the simplest of tasks, I have the same problems. Take things nice and slow. The fatigue will take time to pass as well. Nothing we can do but to wait it out.

So if my last high temperature and other main symptoms were about 2 weeks ago , I should look at another 4 weeks. Is this what you meant by the end of the covid infection. Thanks for info, very VERY helpful.

It’s funny, taking on board 2greys info about 6 weeks after last symptoms, has made it easier. I think I was expecting to get better more quickly, but now I feel more relaxes about it taking time

That's a lovely kind post and very helpful to others who are I'll.

Hi Jomo

I’m sorry to read how poorly you’ve been. I thoroughly sympathise with you as my sister and her husband have been going through the same thing. She also has lung disease and lupus so has felt very ill.

They have had a few different antibiotics and initially my sister thought she was recovering but each time she started to feel a bit better she seemed to go down with it again.

She has been poorly since the start of lockdown but thankfully is starting to get her strength back.

It’s seems to be a long slow recovery when we have lung conditions so look after yourself, I’m pleased you are gradually improving.

Thanks Meg52. It’s good to hear your sister and husband are slowly recovering. It makes it easier to know others are getting through but slowly. I try to explain it to my sister but everyday she thinks I should be a lot better. She huffs and puffs because I’m not a lot better.

It’s probably because she’s been worrying about you. I kept ringing my sister, she must have been fed up with me.

It’s not horrendous if you know it’s a pattern for some of us, but thanks

True. I guess the hope is in knowing that there is that pattern and how it progresses to a point where you're well again.

What a long and difficult journey for you. Thanks for your information. It's very helpful to hear from yourself and 2greys who've had bad doses and to find out how you dealt with it and the journey. I was wondering what anti biotics you took Did you use a rescue pack or were they prescribed during treatment. Take care it seems you are over the worst . Small steps back to health. xx Anita

Jomo46 profile image
Jomo46 in reply to watergazer

On day 2 at a and on first symptoms they prescribed doxycycline. Day 10 on sudden worsening, more doxycycline. Day 19 with breathing difficulties coamoxiclav and a repeat on day29 . Last 3 from gp.

Gd to read all yr stories and comments as im still ill 41/2 wks on,but have severe bronchiectasis, severe asthma and others classed as multiple complex lung diseases.worse than most flareups with ? Pneumonia.shldve taken advice & gone in hospital but didnt want any cross infection probs too.ive been on steroids nr 4 wks,on azithromycin anyway and been on amoxicillin too.taken nr 4wk to turn corner, struggling with wheezing, whn trying to reduce steroids.chests sets heart racing,so still in vicious circle at pres.but obs r improving, mucous is cleaner.its b extremely tough, but gd to be slowly going right way.be careful, people.they arent/werent testing ill people - i was told 4wk ago,by 111 dr - we cant test u,it wouldnt be fair on staff! So dunno what triggered all this.please, get rescue meds and take at 1st symptoms, beta to attack it early.as others r sharing, its exhausting, recovery is v slow, but hang on in there xxxxx

I’m so sorry you are still sick day31 you should be pretty over it. Did you get the actual test? I went yesterday to one of our drive up test spots. I am NOT sick anymore I coughed my way through Feb & Mar but it was just my “regular” pneumonia. I got tested bc I have to go into a hospital for an injection tomorrow and it’s mandatory for an elective procedure that u must test first. And anybody reading this the test did NOT hurt anywhere near what I thought. The only thing I really felt was a strong desire to push the nurse away from me that had the cotton swab up my nose. It wasn’t gagging or feeling like they were going to hit my forehead at all, more like a tickle that makes you sometimes want to sneeze. They announced they would be opening a few things in my state this Fri. Retail mainly and florists. Nothing too exciting our beaches opened up last week but just for exercise, “keep movin” is what they’re calling it cuz that’s what the police announce over speaker if you’re standing or sitting. Things are getting better throughout the world. There will be no sporting events til next year and we have a large population raising Cain over it. Get better soon Jomo

They wouldn’t test early on as I wasn’t on a ward. Now symptoms more or less gone, in recovery and I don’t think test works then.
