Forstair inhaler side affects

I am on Forstair Inhaler 2 puffs x 2 daily but am finding I get a very dry throat so reduced my dosage to 2 puffs once a day. On my last dosage I instantly had an extremely dry throat with tingling on my tongue and bad taste in my mouth which won’t go away. I also have a lot of stomach acid, especially at night I think since being on it. Has anyone else had this problem. I have been complaining to my doctor for about a 6 months of having like a lump In my throat periodically and trouble swallowing when that happens.

Hi, do you use a spacer with it? It's always recommend (at least by us) to thoroughly gargle and rinse the mouth immediately after inhalations. For good measure I also do it before inhalation as well!

Also, it'svery important to wait 30 seconds between your doses (unless yours is in powder form) as it takes this time for the medication to drop down. If you don't wait you'll be getting only the propellant which could irritating you and doesn't open the airways.

Try the 30 second wait n see if it makes a difference. P

I’ve tried gargling after etc etc had a dry throat nearly losing my voice at times. Now I use my fostair just before I eat my breakfast and eat something after my evening dose even if it’s just a biscuit. I have silent reflux with it but have found drinking less milky drinks ( was addicted to lattes as I had a new coffee machine) and using lacto free milk mostly keeps that at bay. My main problem with Fostair is bruises! Cx

Where do you get the bruising? That doesn’t sound too good. Good idea re food afterwards. Thanks x

My arms and legs are the worst every slight knock and then a big bruise. I also get thrush with fostair which causes thick white sputum.

Do you use a spacer. I found I had same problem and it seemed to work.

Check with your surgery.

PS. I have Fostair two

Yes I do use a spacer and mask as I found it hard to use without this. Still have a dry throat. Quite hoarse at times. Thanks.

Hello, RoverC

I have had something similar happen to me recently. I take an Omaprazole tablet each day for acid reflux. I also have rhinitis and use Nasofan nose spray twice a day.

Teen days I started getting what I thought was more acid rising up in my throat and causing s burning sensation there. When I started getting a tingling and burning sensation on my tongue I decided to contact my doctor. I had a telephone conversation with him. He thought it maybe thrush! I didn't agree actually but accepted a prescription to try. He then mentioned that he noticed I was using the nasal spray. That could ask be the cause he said. I did get the prescriptive medicine but decided to stop using the nasal spray. The reflux has definitely eased, so I am delaying using the prescriptive meds. for a few more days. It could well be the cause as we all know there are side effect using all drugs.

One tip my consultant gave me a year ago was to raise your mattress by placing books under it. This will help with the acid reflux. I'm going to try it now to see how I get on.

I hope you manage to sort your problem out, reflux is not just unpleasant, it can be dangerous too.

😀😁😊

How did raising your bed work out? Did it help? My reflux seems to have eased since I stared on a reflux diet so I’m very careful what I eat and I sit upright and try to stretch or walk around after I eat. I suspect I may have silent reflux though as I still have the dry/hoarse throat. Sometimes it is a case of finding the cause, I’m not a great believer in treating the symptoms. Glad you found that the Nasofan was a problem you could eradicate 😀

Hi, I'm glad your reflux has improved. What is included in your reflux diet? I expect its a fat less one. Still, if its working for you you have made the right choice.

My problem settled down and I'm back on Omaprazole but 1 tablet 20 mg on one day, the next day I take just 10 mg. I'm hoping to just take the minimum dose. As for the bed, I'm still waiting for daughter to be able to come in to lift up the mattress to put the books underneath. I assume I have to take a small dose of oMaprazole until I next see the consultant. I'd like to come off them and eat a proper diet instead.

Cheers for now

I am staying off fatty foods, coffee, alcohol. Mainly eating fish, chicken, turkey, potatoes and veg. Salads too. I think sitting up straight makes a difference too. It’s quite a restricted diet though! I tried two pillows to lift me up, under my back too but my neck then hurt, lol!

Good luck with reducing the meds and the bed. Cheers

What a nuisance RoverC - I take Symbicort which I think (please someone correct me if Im wrong) that Fostair is similar. I know some folks are fine with Fostair but quite often I see complaints that it's causing problems whereas I seldom see problems arising with Symbicort. (Though that statement may be an invitation for hordes to contradict me!!)

Symbicort is a powder inhaler whereas I assume Fostair isnt which would be why people are suggesting you use a spacer.

I hope you find a solution. :)

Thanks, I’ll look into that, sometimes it’s just a case of changing as one med doesn’t always suit everyone 🙂

Hi. As others have suggested, a spacer would help. Maybe give it a go if otherwise Fostair is working ok for you. I had Fostair but it didn't help me at all and I hsd numerous unpleasant side effects. Good luck 🤞

I have a spacer but not helped. I’ve done a few things to help acid reflux and came off the inhaler. The reflux is a bit better (not sure what has helped that though) and the wheezing so far is at bay. Fingers crossed it stays that way 🤞Hope you found something to help you! Thanks

Hi Rover C.

I’ve been on quite a high dose of fostair for over a year with no problems. I was on qvar before and also had no problems with that. Obviously not all things suit everybody. I would contact your Dr to see if they could maybe change it.

Thanks. I’d rather not take any meds and try lifestyle change. Not always possible but I’m having a go 🙂

I make sure I rinse my mouth out and drink a lot of water and gargle after using my fostair. x

I was doing that although didn’t one night and hence the tingling tongue. Just goes to show you shouldn’t miss out any steps! Thanks
