Conversation between old man and his dog.

Now look here I said to Midge

Isn't it time you crossed that bridge?

I can't go first and leave you alone

You'd never manage on your own.

Well said she that made me laugh

I've never heard owt quite so daft

You would be completely lost

Without me here to keep you bossed.

Well that is true I had to say

Without your guidance I would stray

But I make all the meals you see

If I left first where would you be?

Says Midge what are you on about

We've both got years left never doubt

Let's not worry about which or whether.

We'll just have to hope we go together.

Thank you for another great rhyme Don. It's good to see you 😊 (and Midge too, of course) 🐕

Scruff's told me that i would go much sooner

Should i ever forget to feed her tuna

I hastily refilled her bowl

I felt her eyes piercing my soul

I can tell you now and its a fact

I ain't signing up for a suicide pact

Perhaps we'll toss a coin for who goes first

But i don't fancy my luck i think i'm cursed. :) x

Apologies for lack of rhyme.

I know it’s tongue in cheek but what are you thinking of Don writing about such a subject, upsetting Midge and your readers too! How about a rhyme on longevity instead.

I want to see you and Midge around for a few years yet.

Take care and big strokes for Midge

Love

X

It was a private conversation I don't know how it got posted on here, Corin. 🙄x

Don? I honestly can relate. On a bad day, I cannot bear to think of life without Chom if anything happened to him. He turns five this year but although not a senior dog yet, he gets more tired , much more quickly than he used to. Under his snout there is white fur his face is older and wiser. He needs more rest and sleeps a lot more. I am acutely aware of the passage of his time. Luckily if I go first he has other family, but would he miss me? I think it would be relatively short lived if he did because my children are good substitutes. But I do think about it. The most unfair thing about loving dogs is that they live such short lives.

Love,

Cas xx *Feeling blue* 😢

Oh Caspiana, We have just been down that path,Had our 10 year old labrador Nina put to sleep. Bless her,She had started having fits, which got worse.Medication helped at first but wore off.So with vets advice we had to let her go,Its so sad and so heartbreaking but you cannot let them suffer. Ido hope Chom and Midge go on enjoying their lovely owners company for a long time.Plus all the other pet owners as well .Midge and company.Take care Rose x

Oh no Rose 😓 I'm so very sorry. But you are right. We cannot allow them to suffer. I know you and Nina had a wonderful decade together. *HUG* 🌈🐕

in reply to Caspiana

I’m sorry if my rhyme made you feel like that, Cas, it shouldn’t do because our situations are miles apart. I’m 88 and Midge is roughly the same age in dog years. Chom is in his prime you you are young and have recently undergone a complete a refurbishment.

It doesn’t make me sad discussing the practicalities of who goes first, it’s something that is going to happen. Whether I should be postingmy thoughts in that way is another matter, I certainly don’t wish to upset people, it was intended be amusing.

Caspiana profile image
Caspiana in reply to

No, actually it wasn't your rhyme , your rhyme is delightful Don. It's just how I've been feeling as I have had some bad days recently. Not your fault at all. So please don't worry and don't let my dark ☁️ upset you. xx 😊😁

Dear Cas hate to think of you feeling blue, hope it is short lived. Rosie is 15 in December so I know we will not have her much longer which is an awful thought. Although she still acts like a puppy, loves to play and can certainly run very quickly in the garden when another dog goes by. Love and Hugs Carole and Rosie 😘😘

Caspiana profile image
Caspiana in reply to Johnsel

Oh Carole, 😥

What a thought. But as you say she's still very agile which is a very good sign. Now I understand people when they say it takes a long time to even consider getting another dog after their dog passes. When I think about how much time we actually have with them, it will never be enough will it? xx 🐕🐶

No I haven’t been posting much of late, due to inspiration having been replaced by exasperation most of the time. 🙄

I feel the same . Had a really wobbly few days last week when I didn't feel like interacting on my WhatsApp friends group chat. Felt like crying all day instead. Hey ho 1 of my friends messaged me privately then facetimed me as she realised I might be struggling. Now its my turn to help her as her mum (90+) has to go into care and she's the wobbly one.

Take care dear Don. Would love to see Midge photo . Miss my dog even 5 years on after going over the rainbow bridge x Anita

in reply to watergazer

Yes it's true, dogs leave a gap which never fills in later years. I've posted many photos of Midge on here I dare not post another. Here's one of her before she went grey.

When I press Like I get unlike, but anyway I do like Don but made me feel a bit sad.hope you are ok and not having a 'down' day. Love Iris x

in reply to Lyd12

When you press ‘like’ it records a like, which I like, then gives you the choice to ‘unlike’ it if you change your mind. It doesn’t always do that, I’ve no idea why.

The rhyme was intended to be mainly amusing but a bit sad, not a lot, as we both try to do what is best for the other.

I don’t tend to have up or down days, Iris, but more up and down periods within days. That way it stops me going too far down, or too far up, making it difficult to level out again. 😉😘x
