Question re Face Masks

How can London Mayor's proposal work when he insists that everyone should wear face masks. They would not work for me because I have severe brochiectasis and often cough and sneeze when I am out walking? Is it better and safer to use folded up tissues and keep throwing them away? I would appreciate an answer please.

I'm not sure how he would enforce this as there are not enough mask anyway.

Some people with COPD find breathing though masks difficult anyway and of course those on oxygen would have real problems not that we are allowed out anyway. Obviously in your case you would need a large supply of disposable masks or clothe washable ones that you could change as you walked and put in a plastic bag to wash at home. However these are also in short supp!y so unless you could make them yourself there is no easy answer.

But what about tissues over the mouth. Cough, sneeze and sling. Then use a new one as needed Do you agree it would work? No need to wash anything.

The man hasn't taken into account the fact that there is a shortage of face masks universally and if the government can not even supply our Nhs his timing is incredibly bad, perhaps once the lockdown is eased and as things tend to get back to some sort of normality and also on the backing of scientific evidence recommendations as opposed to legislation would be more appropriate.?

These people don't think things through before they speak do they?

It is a ridiculous idea to expect everyone to wear masks.

In several asian countries those with coughs, colds etc are the ones who wear masks. Some wear them when they are fine too just because and some wear them due to pollution.

For those of us with various lung conditions (I have bronchiectasis and severe asthma) it simply cannot work. I would struggle to breathe through it, my lungs would go into panic mode from not receiving oxygen and I’d end up a heap on the floor somewhere. Not a pretty sight.

I actually have a few masks made of different materials like silk which I can breathe through but obviously won’t prevent various bugs from getting through. Quite useful for avoiding smoke which sets me off coughing. My daughter has some too with BTS logos and other cute things on them. She is a big fan of Kpop and is studying Korea at university. They are mostly made of cotton and again wouldn’t prevent the likes of Corona virus from getting through. But then, who in their right minds allows someone who is coughing and sneezing to get in their face?! It is more likely that it’ll be transmitted through touching contaminated surfaces so perhaps keeping a small bottle of hand gel or hand wipes on your person to be used as needed throughout the day when out and about would make more sense. Maybe masks for those who are coughing and sneezing to stop others from catching your bug but only if that person cannot stay home in the first place. That is another issue we have in the UK. Expecting people to work regardless of their health due to zero hour contracts and no sick pay for many people. It is time the health and welfare of the nation was put before profits.
