Breathless with asthma,copd and now tree pollen allergy

Im currently on Fostair and Ventolin inhalers...our drs.surgery no longer has an asthma nurse and I'm panicking in case it gets worse,is there anything stronger I could be prescribed as a backup just in case?My GP doesn't seem genned up on this side of treatment

You probably just need to stay inside when the pollen is high Davjak and take your inhalers as prescribed. If things do worsen, make a telephone appointment with your doctor to discuss the situation and meantime do what your previous asthma nurse recommended in high pollen season.

Also you may want to contact the asthma helpline in the country you reside.

Hi Davjak, don't panic. I to feel that the pollen are on ATM, but took already some antihistamines it always helps me. If I struggle a bit more I do actually some yoga to come down and try to breathe slow to get more air into my lungs.

And if I feel my chest gets tight, I take steroids, I do have them as self management and have always a set at home together with antibiotics if I feel I get an infection.

Maybe try to talk with the asthma nurse here on the website, it definitely speak to your GP.

thanks for your reassurance,i have taken piriton,i dont have steroids to help me,and how would i speak to the asthma nurse on this website....unfortunately my lovely asthma nurse suddenly died last year and the surgery havent replaced her so i feel quite unsupported and seeing all the news reels lately of people saying how they have struggled for breath with the virus seems to panic me slightly

The BLF have a helpline 03000 030 555.

But I would contact your Health Centre today. I e mailed mine yesterday and a doctor rang me back to answer my asthma queries .

Have you a plan in place on how to deal with your asthma , what medications to take , how much in an exacerbation ...when to ring for help....an emergency pack.

Perhaps when things return to being a bit more normal these are issues you could discuss with a health professional.

Hi I am on fexofenadine for allergy ,its an antihistamine as well as inhalers and montelukast keeps the pollen symptoms reduced for me

Hi Davjak. Try not to panic, you are on the same treatment as me, I'm moderate and I am not on the danger list people got in the post.

The government advice is to keep taking our inhalers as usual and just follow isolating and hygiene guides as usual. Stronger inhalers, won't be any benefit against the virus, our usual ones, will keep us ticking over as normal.

The virus can't affect you, if you are keeping your distance from people and hand washing thoroughly, everytime you've been out.

if your isolated, even better. You can't catch it at all. xx

I have severe copd and not got a letter it's really frustrating the pollen isn't helping and not only that the council are breaking down a giant multi level carpark lots of dust the air feels so polluted. The letter thing is to me a load of rubbish I went on gov.com registered there still no help.

Hi Davjak, do you have asthma plan? If so read it and compare how you feeling with the information. Have you got a peak flow meter, if you have use it and check how good\bad it is this should then tell you what to do. The pollen count has been high here and my breathing has been effected. I am now taking my emergency steroids and I feel muchbetter. If you do not have this information then you need to decide whether your asthma is bad enough to try 111. Good luck and take care. yes i managed to get 5 day stroid course...finished it yesterday....thing is now im worrying in case it all returns! dr.said i can have it...prednisalone..on repeat,but you must have to leave a gap between courses surely?....hope i stay ok xx

Hi Davjak, we are all different in the way we react to steriods (Prednisalone). I have Bronchiectasis so I do not react well to just a one week course, which is what most docs want us to take. My consultant insists I take one week at 6 per day and then I reduce each day for the following week. This always works for me. No gap needed. If I take a gap my breathlessness comes back immediately and I am back to square one. Hope this helps. Take care, Maximonkey
