I was getting quietly concerned about our food situation at home. I’m quite an inventive cook but you can’t cook without supplies.

Messing about on my phone thought look at Tesco and lo and behold there was a slot available for tomorrow.

Don’t give up hope keep looking and something will appear.

I guess I won’t have to open the Gin just yet😁😁

Oh my I hope you get some goodies that you can mix up what you like, but you right it's not always easy to have a good and healthy meals when you have no ingredients.

I actually have started to bake bread again....and is actually yummy. Now my hubby ask....do you make bread again LOL 😋

Stay safe and keep well!! 🌹🌹🌹

Thank you Melnel I’m keeping the flour and yeast for emergencies the problem being we eat too much of it, straight out of the oven with loads of butter. Not healthy but very yummy😁

I’m not a picky eater at all. Not implying anyone is, however I’m cool with dry bread and water....as long as hunger pangs go away I don’t care. I’m loaded with staples. I just make huge lentil stews and cook brown rice up. Now that the kids are grown and it’s only me I’m easy to please.

Iceland seems to be the only one opening up slots for the vulnerable, but you do have to keep checking everyday. The slots coming available can be next day. Not the best selection of groceries and not everything in stock but something is better than nothing.

Good luck.

skischool profile image
skischool in reply to Bkin

Useful if you can get identified as being vulnerable.not quite sure how much lower i need to be from my existing 22 % to join that elusive club. :(

Bkin profile image
Bkin in reply to skischool

You can they have the option when booking a slot, just rely on peoples honesty when they click to confirm they are vulnerable or elderly.

skischool profile image
skischool in reply to Bkin

In my experience supermarkets even when advised by text messages or updating existing accounts of which i have 2 are refusing to accept that i am vulnerable,i am not yet seventy by a couple of years so for all intents and purposes they won't accept i am vulnerable until i have either written proof from the government or the government get their act together ,sort out who should properly be on the list and advice the supermarkets accordingly?

Bkin profile image
Bkin in reply to skischool

oh yes blame it on the government. I just told how its your choice if you want to wait for confirmation or just keep trying.

skischool profile image
skischool in reply to Bkin

You obviously haven't listen to a thing i have said,i have been trying to prove my vulnerability or the fact that i need to shield given the severity of my lung condition with supermarkets for the last 2 weeks to no avail .

Bkin profile image
Bkin in reply to skischool

I don't think you have listened to what I have said - as above.... Iceland, once your basket is full and you book an available slot you are asked if you are a vulnerable person or elderly, you just click the selection vulnerable. Simples once a slot becomes available. I've been trying for 2 weeks as well. Only had success with Iceland. Good luck with your slot booking. Of course you have to have registered with them and pay by card :)

skischool profile image
skischool in reply to Bkin

ok out of curiosity i will try the iceland site, but doesn't that process just feed the dishonest people who are abusing the system and not address the real issue here that officially recognised vulnerable people identified by the government who i do blame are missing out on food because the government are not supporting them and not recognizing their vulnerability?

Bkin profile image
Bkin in reply to skischool

Again as my comment above - it relies on peoples honesty, whilst one could grump about dishonest people lets just hope people are being honest, I think they must be to have slots for the vulnerable at Iceland I'd say, either that or people prefer not to shop at Iceland, but when you've been trying for 2 weeks, Iceland is better than nothing. Night night, dream happy :)

You guys arguing is making me laugh- thanks. But really I’m only 54 but have the very obvious physical disability but by the time I get to the market an I ask the clerk” where’s this or that” they keep asking if I’m 60 OR OLDER I can come early there’s a specific time before they open to public. It’s getting me a bit annoyed- NO IM NOT 60 guys THANKS! LOL

I have tried to get a slot at my local iceland for more than a month,It depends where in the country you are as to the availibilty. They have very limited choice which is ok for me but not so good if you need specific things for a special diet like Skis.Every body ticks the box entitled or not.thats why there is no slots.

Who is too blame for telling the most vulnerable to stay ay home for 3 months and not giving them priority access to food ? It's a shambles xx

Not expecting one Bev,the system is flawed and GP's on almost £130,000 are not in any hurry to rock the boat and upset the Nhs in our moment of need, they are happy to keep a low profile as they don't want the hassle.

in reply to skischool

Skis, as I understand it, only those with the letter and who have registered on Gov.UK will (eventually) be recognised by supermarkets, as they will be notified by the government who is vulnerable or not. Age isn't part of the criteria. My 73 year old husband never had a letter. But I would have thought your lungs should have flagged you up. 😠

Kath i have registered twice on the government site as has Comino but we still await a letter so we can avail ourselves of a sensible delivery slot some time before next month? x

Hi I have a letter from NHS and the government that I am vulnerable but they haven't let the super markets know yet and any supposed phone nos are automated so I'm stuck till they get the act together no slots till government lets them know I'm elderly and vulnerable it's all a shambles

it's the way i have always gone Bev but it is weary having to tell people the reality of the situation and i am beginning to think that even on the dodgy site we are becoming a them and us society?we don't want anything special just that what we deserve, :(

MoyB profile image
MoyB in reply to skischool

There seems to be no consistency across the country, Skis. I'm not seventy until next year but got an early notification from Sainsbury's that I was on their priority list for delivery slots. I couldn't understand where they got their info from as they would only have had my date of birth to go on at that time, or so I thought. (My husband is 77 but they have never had his date of birth!!??) Anyway, last week, much to my surprise, I got 'the text' followed five days later by 'the letter' so I don't know if there was some sharing of info going on even then between NHS and Sainsbury's. I didn't get any priority notification from Tesco, although I was lucky and got food from them for three weeks running, whereas the first Sainsbury slot I got is next week. Hop

It doesn't seem to make any sense at all.

Hope you can get something sorted out soon.

xx Moy

skischool profile image
skischool in reply to MoyB

In your case Moy that is what is supposed to have happened in that the government would advise the supermarkets as to entitlement but the supermarkets either didn't get the advice or just made up a discretionary system.?

i am most pleased that you have been captured and long may those supplies continue. :) xx

I also received an early notification from Sainsbury's that I was on their priority list for delivery slots, before I received the NHS notifications I'm on the vulnerable list.

I'm in my 50s and though I've had a loyalty card for years, I've never previously shopped on-line with them, so was also puzzled as to how they were aware of my health status. I have occasionally completed their on-line surveys and was wondering if I'd responded or commented on any questions regarding 'ease of parking' parking or disabled bays. However, I suspect you're right that they may have already received early notification from the NHS.

A neighbour told me she looks in the middle of the night when she is feeding her baby and gets her slots that way Last night I looked at Tesco a little after 11 and they had opened up slots for delivery today. I put in for a flexible slot and got one. I had to complete the order by 12 which was difficult as the site was running very slow and I had a few heart stopping moments when trying to check out and I was placed in a queue. Managed to click back and have confirmation. Just have everything crossed now that it turns up. Good luck I hope this helps you.

I work doing online shopping. At the moment I’m going in 2 hrs earlier than I normally do. We are doing 3 times as much shopping as we’ve ever had, even at Christmas time. I know it’s difficult to find a slot but have you tried Click and collect? Even if you can’t get to the supermarket yourself maybe someone could get it for you. It’s hard at the moment for everyone, we have shoppers in tears with fear of catching this from someone else, then passing it on. Other than that is there not a Volunteer group near where you live that could help.

I hope you manage to find a slot soon or someone that can help you.

Good luck and take care x

Thank you Cassie, unfortunately i live alone without support but now that i am listed i should have a better chance of a delivery slot and may i say many thanks to you and your colleagues you are obviously all working your socks off and i hope you will be suitably rewarded with extra money and time off when the opportunity arises. :)

Morrison's tend to release slots sound two in the morning. Due to my insomnia and persistence I have managed to get slots. I have shopped with them for about 3 years. I always buy the midweek monthly pass. Which allows me to book a month in advance and costs about 5 quid for the month. Over last week slots have appeared where there was no slots before. Obviously the new drivers and pickers are coming on stream.

For us the system seems to have worked fairly well, although the supermarket aspect took some sussing out. Today I was able to access a slot for the first time. Don’t actually need it at this moment, ( it is for Sunday) as in my slight panic - well concern - I had ordered deliveries from the farm shop and the butchers.

My husband, Tony, got his extremely vulnerable letter right at the beginning, followed up by two calls from our surgery, and four (!!!!) calls now from the local council, checking in with us and giving us numbers of volunteer helpers. Our medication was delivered from the pharmacy by a volunteer. The major problem was how to get a supermarket slot. I have tried many nights to get on the Tesco and other sites to no avail. Eventually, managed to get through on the Sainsbury telephone line for vulnerable and register, and voilà yesterday got a text to say I was registered and that a slot would be available. There it was this morning.

All I can say is persevere, and try Sainsbury’s. They seem to have got their act together now. You do need a nectar card. If you don’t have the letter, although you definitely should have, like Skis, then I think it is down to your GP. Ours was for once on the ball, but some don’t seem to have done their bit. Consultants should also have flagged up their vulnerable patients.

Good luck everyone. Our local small shops have really stepped up with deliveries, so maybe try those.

Xxx

I've signed up with our county council (Derbyshire) there was a choice of services available. I chose the emergency food deliveries, but there were others, such as a friendly phone call and help with collecting and delivering mail, and delivering prescriptions. Take care everyone . 😘🌺🌹❤️

Sorry I put my comment up before reading all the others - I realise now how incredibly flippant it sounds! With regard to the vulnerable slots at the supermarkets, I have received a text and letter from the nhs advising that I am at severe risk etc., but cannot get on the home delivery list. I have also registered twice with the government but still no luck. I went on line at 7 a.m the day I got the collection slot and kept checking the Sainsbury’s site - the slots were released at 9 a.m for two days ahead. we had to collect it from a local Sainsbury’s this morning and the process was really easy, in fact my husband will go on his own next time as I’m not supposed to go out (I did stay in the car the whole time obviously) but went along to navigate...

I agree that the system appears to be flawed in that many of those who are extremely vulnerable are not able to get on the supermarket lists ..

We have found a multitude of small local shops doing deliveries if you contact them by email or phone, and some have introduced websites. Greengrocers, butchers, cheese and bread shops etc. Worth searching around and it might help to keep them in business.
