did anyone else see the quote below came from the independent? there are also articles about it in sky, the mirror, new york times.

i can only hope this is more reliable than some of the things we've heard about recently. surely worth a look at least. does anyone feel inclined to do a full read-up and make an assessment?

"F1 team creates coronavirus breathing aid that can take patients out of intensive care

Mercedes will build up to 1,000 Continuous Positive Airway Pressure devices a day at their High Performance Powertrains base that normally produces F1 power units after developing the system with the University College London engineers and clinicians"

this is just stunning isn't it.

or at least, let's try to calm down a bit, it will be stunning if the devices work okay.

because 1,000 a day means they could kit out the new nightingale hospital in under a week. and they could boost the nhs's existing ventilators.

i suppose we should wait to see quite where they fit into the plan. but i do find it exciting and positive that industry has stepped up to try to provide some of the equipment the nhs needs to be able to do its job.

Mercedes F1 team have been working with University College Hospital have been working on CPAP machines. They are being tested now. I also understand that McClaren F1, team,Mercedes F1 team, Ford, Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems and Airbus are all ramping up production of ventilators. These companies have pulled staff off existing projects to meet the National need. 👏👏👏👏Barbs x

thanks for that barbs47. it's heartwarming to know that people are stepping up to help everyone.

my understanding is that the joy of the cpap machines is that you don't necessarily need to be in intensive care. plus everyone who can manage on a cpap machine doesn't need a ventilator, so they can be used by someone else instead.

and i hope we'll all think of this gesture in future, when we watch those formula one cars racing around at great speed on the track.
