Getting food delivered

Does anyone know how we could get a delivery slot from one of the main supermarkets if we are one of those being shielded but they won't let you register on their site even though you have registered as needing help on Gov.uk?

In a word Orphy....no. I’m still trying but won’t give up. Try and get on to as many supermarkets within your area as possible. Keep an eye on click and collect too if you have someone who can collect for you.

Good luck. Xxxx

Its a problem I am experiencing too. Even with the sites I am already registered with.

The local community police officer has referred me to Compassionate Community Connection through the local Council, lord knows how long that will take.

Check on FB for groups in your local area that are helping in your local community.

Also check with your local Age UK for advice and possible local contacts.

Hope we can sort something out.

I have been reluctant to ask local groups and FB groups because unknown where the person has been or who they are in contact* with. Also its a payment problem, dealing with cash or writing cheques, I guess you could leave money in envelope outside door for them.

At some point I am going to have to decide to risk asking * or risk going in the vulnerable time slot at the supermarkets.

To top it all, my visa debit is about to expire and the Bank / postal deliveries are not working to full workforce so there are delays.

Its safer to pay on line I think or if at supermarket use contactless payment.

Hope something works out for us all in the safest possible way.

Take good care.

Oh my - thanks for the advice, hope you get a new card soon. Stay safe.

That’s good advice from blind.

I like you have been unable to get a delivery from any supermarket for over 3 weeks now. I think things will get sorted out eventually. I did get a parcel from the government which has helped. At least we have the basics, but it’s far from everything we would like ( no cheese or fresh veg apart from potatoes.) please don’t get me wrong I’m not moaning and am relieved to get something. I have just heard some of the smaller local shops are delivering. Perhaps it’s the same in your area. Also you could try your local Breathe Easy group if you have one , or church as they might have some ideas

As for the supermarkets, just keep trying all the different ones. You may just get lucky.

Take good care. I hope you get what you need soon. Include a few nice titbits when you do.

Good luck and keep smiling

Stay safe and well,

Love K x

Thanks - take care too.

I suddenly received priority access to ocado yesterday for an order within 7 days. I don’t know whether this is because I pay monthly for deliveries or whether they have received the electronic information from the NHS. Waitrose and Sainsbury’s say that they are working hard to identify their vulnerable customers and I saw some of the food parcels being delivered on the tv this morning. Hopefully it is just a matter of time before it gets sorted out.

Could it be that your interior furnishing and design have been approved by the style police and that the gravel driveway was neat and tidy and ok for delivery lol :) enjoy your imminent arrival LP. x

No it depends on the style and material of your soft furnishings lol :) x

Actually, I was really good. Because I had an order booked for next fri ( placed 3 weeks ago) I didn't take up another slot but just edited that one. Obviously, as the soon to be aired documentary proves, anyone shopping with Royals has to be vetted for the quality of their paintwork and during the current emergency, the cleanliness of their outside doormat. I am displaying my gold medal on my front door. 😘

Ironically i had a pre ordered delivery for 01/04 with Morrisons made some 4 weeks ago before the hoarders really got to work, thankfully that order is still to be delivered and i tried to amend it last night as it only had wine and milk and cat food on it,after an exciting 16 min wait in a virtual queue my time arrived,i panicked, appeared to make a new order, cancelled that one, thankfully i was still on the site and managed to amend the original,by this time i was in a wine induced tizzy and it would appear on completion i have now doubled up on wine boxes, cancelled Scruffy's food and ordered cat litter and ordered copious amounts of other stuff i can not even eat.Haven't had such an exciting evening for years . :) x

in reply to skischool

That'so funny. I had waited 6 hrs to get on Ocado, then they closed the queue. Then I got the priority slot. Still had to wait 20 mins and by the time it counted down to me I was so excited that I nearly didn't click on the correct point to open my order. And I thought that the most excited I would get over food was in 1975 when for 8 mths we dashed out for half an hour every day to try to buy bread, salad, ham - anything during the Lebanese civil war.

Somehow at the moment LP and having been in conflict situations myself those times appear to have been reassuringly predictable or scary, either the bullet or the missile would see you off but these days are unpredictably frightening with an unseen enemy behind every face but somehow i reckon with a little resolve and care and of course the correct soft furnishings we will come out the other side . :) x

in reply to skischool

So true, we got carted off from our house in a tank because my husband was a high profile moslem foreigner in a phalange area and the American embassy heard that he was a kidnap target. Exciting times but you are right, not as disturbing as the hidden enemy. Even the plague in the Ten Commandments was a green fog!

Back to the hobbies, books and premium pate.😉

That's good news. Maybe things are taking a while as there are still a lot of letters to go out.

I got a call yesterday from the County Council in Nottinghamshire, they said I had been referred by the NHS, they asked if I had enough food for over the weekend, when I said I had they asked if it was alright to let my local council have my details so they could get in touch during the week. It was so they could deliver any items needed, they made a point of asking if I had any allergies. So it would seem that the NHS are referring people to the relevant people. Good luck and let me know how you all get on. Have a good day and take care of yourself and your family 😊 Bernadette xx

It would appear the Morrison's release slots about 2 o'clock in the morning. Due to my insomnia I have slots until the end of April. I checked and managed to get the second from last slot at 4 o clock this morning. My next door neighbor delivers for asda. He said within the next week the new delivery drivers will commence and more slots will come up even on days that were previously full. So keep checking.

Orphy1954 profile image
Orphy1954 in reply to Badbessie

Great, thanks

I don’t think I’d feel right about having several slots, up to a month in advance, knowing there are many others who haven’t had a delivery & are unable to get a single slot because they’re all booked out

Badbessie profile image
Badbessie in reply to

I am a regular with Morrison's, have been for about three years. Every week I order the same amount of food. I pay extra for a monthly pass. I am doing what I would normally do. I cannot leave the house nor can my wife. If anyone is to blame it is the people who are able to go shopping blocking the system. Even before this I was unable to shop so ordering in advance for delivery is nothing new. Please what gives you the right to judge me?

in reply to Badbessie

I quite agree. An able-bodied relative has booked up weekly home delivery slots for the next month. I’ve been trying for 2 weeks but despite being a regular Sainsbury’s online shopper with a delivery pass, like you are with Morrison’s, I can’t get one, even tho I’m on the “extremely vulnerable” list. But not as far as Sainsbury’s is concerned 🙄If others weren’t booking several slots at a time, or would do click & collect, I might have a chance!

I totally agree with you Hanne. But then I'm lucky enough to have daughter living nearby and am unlikely to starve. I appreciate must be very frightening for some people.

Have you tried Sainsburys, they did have a phone number to contact if you were vulnerable or elderly and not on their list. Hope this helps. Good luck, stay safe x PS they have the Monday slots for the vulnerable and elderly people.

Thanks - I think I have to wait for the Gov.uk registration to be passed on. Will keep trying.

I was quite surprised to get a call from my local council this morning asking if I needed food etc only cat food I said!

My lad is picking up bits and pieces do not too bad really.

The chap I spoke to emailed me a list of local butchers, greengrocers etc who were delivering including a big local pet store.

I do feel that after all this is over, whenever that may, be I will boycott all the big supermarkets.

Hi Judes, if the little local shops keep up deliveries they could well replace the supermarkets, can only be a good thing x

If you have not already done so sign up on the uk .gov extremely vulnerable register then phone the supermarket that delivers online. Then ask them to email their online hq to be added to the list. Then like me you have to wait and see what happens for 2 days till they email you back. Apparently the register goes not work in Wales.

When I phoned my local on line supermarket I ignored all options until I got to one that said if you are staff or delivery driver and pressed that., then spoke to a real person and apologised for coming through on the wrong number they were very pleasant and transferred me.

I'm still waiting to see what happens.

I managed to get a delivery slot with Asda. They ask if you are in the vulnerable category and there is a box for your reply. Limited to how many of each item you can buy and delivery date may be a while after you order but better than nothing. Also Iceland are good as again they are prioritising OAP and vulnerable people. Hope you manage to get a delivery.

Sadly Iceland don't deliver to our village - going to try all the Supermarkets again.

Last night I was having another of my "can't sleep" nights so I was messing with my phone ..checked in on the Tesco delivery ,just incase . ...noticed the date had changed for last delivery day ..it had gone from a Friday to a Saturday ...ok ..so I kept checking in looking to see if it was going to change again ..2am ..YES ..it did ..I managed to get 19th April ..am not expecting most of what I've ordered but had fun putting things in my basket ..your allowed 80 items ,which is quit a lot . Sheer bloody mindedness payed off last night . Thank you Tesco .Good Luck xx
