Just had emphysema diagnosed following chest X-ray. Spirometer test next stop but likely to be a while given Covid-19. Told it is mild and I am still active 59 yr old, but I am a little anxious to understand how this might progress pending speaking to a medical professional whenever that might be. Any feedback appreciated.

New emphysema diagnosis
Hello sloop , 👋
I don't have Emphysema, but there are many here who do. I have always believed disease is a very individual thing. People progress or not in different ways and paces. However, there are many who are diagnosed with lung disease when still mild, make some lifestyle changes and remain mild. I don't know if your disease is caused by smoking, but if it is and you are still smoking, the advice would be to stop. Keep active and eat healthily. I am sure others will be along to give you feedback.
Sending warm wishes,
Cas xx 🍀
I was diagnosed with moderate COPD in 2015, emphysema with a little asthma. By getting more active and leading weekly singing for lung health groups plus other regular diaphragm singing, my diagnosis improved to the low end of normal.
So keep as fit as you can, exercise your lungs, follow the advice of others here, especially about avoiding triggers and infections, and you should be able to delay the progression of your emphysema.
All the best.
