If he suspects he may have cv19 he should self isolate for 7 days immediately and you should follow the NHS advice on living in the same house as someone who is self isolating to give yourself the best chance of avoiding it. I hope this works for you.

I would have said it depends on how careful you both are with regular cleaning of places you both touch, coughing into tissues and hand hygiene. The problem is how long would he been able to pass it on, before any signs appeared, I see some people have been advised to self isolate in different rooms, depends on how large you home is.

We are careful however house is small so being in separate rooms is not possible.

We have thought about how we would manage this. My daughters have their own rooms so they could be isolated in there, and whoever is sick out of my husband and I will take the bedroom and the other one will have the sofa. E.g. if my husband is sick he will stay in the bedroom and I will leave food and drink outside the door and then making sure I am careful with hygiene when handling the dirty plates. We only have one toilet so if he uses the bathroom, if he is able he will wipe down surfaces he has touched after use and if not, I will do it wearing glove. We will communicate via video call so there is no face to face contact. If he became very sick I would be phoning the doctor for advice anyway. Providing it’s a mild case then its only 7 days to manage. I would urge you to adopt precautions straight away.

We self isolate for 14 days in Australia and I would not be locking myself up with him

I'm a bit confused about the isolation for 7 days. Here in Spain everyone is isolated and only allowed out for specific things ie. Hospital visits chemist food and emergencies. As I live on an island we are pretty protected. And I think they have stopped these super liners from docking here.So with luck we can beat it here...but I guess it only needs one person.

Chins up keep well
