My dad has a respiratory nurse now and they took sputum samples and found an infection hadn’t cleared up. She called. My dads GP and they said it was better to go to hospital for intravenous.
They wouldn’t give them to him because they said there was no point, he already had a weeks course before.
Now they are saying if he gets a really bad infection, they won’t treat him.
Is this right? Is at end stage and under palliative care. He already has a DNA.
I could be wrong but if he requests treatment it should be given. Only he can override his dnr. But he has the right to be kept comfortable (unfortunately you are between morally right and leagaly right. ) i hope you get the best outcome for your dad

My mum was given treatment and antibiotics up until she sadly died. She was 89.
She had also signed the form which states that she did not want to be resuscitated.
It sounds to me that they are neglecting their duty of care.
That doesnt sound right to me, they still have a duty of care. Your dad signed a do not resuscitate form NOT a do not treat form. If your gp wont treat him then I would take him to the hospital for treatment. My mum signed a dnr form but was still treated by her gp, I would speak with the practice manager and get clarification on this , you could also ring the blf helpline and ask their advice x
This was the hospital. His Gp sent him up there because he said it was best to have them intravenous.

The respiratory nurse said infection was still there despite already having antibiotics last week. So she called the GP surgery. They called hospital and said they my dad needed them intravenous.
They said they wouldn’t treat it because he will become or already is immune
Hi Sally , if he is immune to the antibiotics they gave him already they can bl***y well try new / different antibiotics. 😡 In every hospital there is a liaisons officer. Contact them. They cannot refuse your father treatment. Even if he is in palliative care he is entitled to treatment. xx
How do the hospital know this if they havent seen him and the fact that the nurse and gp have recommended the hospital give him intravenous abs, Your dad cant be just left without medication, I would just take him to a & e and insist they do something, its terrible they have left you with this worry, I do hope you can get some help x
Tell PALs at the hospital. If nothing else works, ask your MP for help. DNR is for when you've had a heart attack or similar, and does not stop standard NICE guideline treatment.
