Question About Side Effects of Fostair

I've tried Fostair for a month and don't think it does wonders for my breathing, at all. However, during the the last week, I have developed a partial numbness on the left side of my face and a feeling of pressure on my eyeball, after inhaling Fostair. The numbness fades after about 4 hours. Fostair has made my eyes bloodshot, since I began taking it.

I did see a practice nurse, who very reluctantly gave me my old inhaler, but said she'd spoken to the respiratory nurse who said this feeling was not caused by Fostair. I am due to see her again at the end of March.

This feeling seems to coincide with taking Fostair. Has anyone else had any similar feelings? Could it be Salamol ? (certainly using that a lot more)

Check with your gp or consultant. It could be Bells palsy. Hope you get it sorted. I use Fostair and not had any side affects. But we are all different

I’m on Fostair and have been for 6 months after changing from symbicort. I haven’t noticed any side effects. Did those awful sounding ‘side effects’ go when you reverted back to your old inhaler? As Spacecat 1 suggested, it may be Bells Palsy. Try to get a GP appointment ASAP and might be worthwhile having a word with a pharmacist too. Hope it gets sorted .

Have just gone back on to my old inhaler, So I shall see if these odd effects go away.

Thanks for your response.

I have been on Fostair 200 / 6 for about 3 years and I have never had side-effects. The only thing I will say about Fostair, if I am not going through a part of the year where I am prone to flare-ups, Fostair works but when I reach a time in the year where I am prone to flare-ups, Fostair does not work.

I suspect, the symptoms you are experiencing are due to your rescue inhaler. If I use my rescue inhaler a lot, I will find I get palpitations and sometimes headaches.

I had terrible shortness of breath and panic attacks when my Consultant changed to Fostair. The panic attacks lasted up to 20mins so scary. I stopped using Fostair and went back to my original inhaler and everything went back to normal. There are others on this site had problems with Fostair. Never had your symptoms though .

Hi Garshe,

Yes, it can make you feel very anxious. I found it sort of worked in the morning, ut was awful in the evening.

Thanks for replying.

I was terribly Anxious and the panic attacks were horrendous. I know you have to slow your breathing down during an attack but this was something different. They did stop once I reverted back to my original inhaler and stopped the Fostair.take care

Thanks for your concern Karen. I am hoping this numbness goes away, but if it doesn't I'll go back to the Dr., I hasten to add, not the grumpy nurse I saw. Very unlucky, yesterday, as most of the medical staff are lovely. I just saw the only one who isn't.

Why wait?

Gp appointment to go back to original by request. Failure to grant request, complain to practice manager and visit hospital. All sorted in one trip.

Sounds like you need to get yourself a thorough check at the GPs I take fostair and the only thing I have noticed is the bruising I get on my arms and legs though that could have been developing when taking other inhalers however as others say - we all react differently to meds. Take care. Anita x
