Early exposure to household cleaning products is associated with asthma and wheeze in young children.

The prevalence of childhood asthma has steadily increased over the past several decades and is now a leading cause of childhood chronic disease and admissions to hospital in developed countries, making it a priority for clinicians, researchers and the public. The first months of life are critical for the development of the immune and respiratory systems. By identifying hazardous exposures and behaviours during infancy, preventive measures could be implemented to potentially reduce childhood asthma and allergy risk.

I will always remember when my son was about 6/7 he asked me why he didn’t have any allergies as many of his school friends did.

Ah well my son I said to him, you live in a house full of cats, we have a dog I’m not to bothered if when you are out playing you get filthy, the kitchen and bathrooms were always cleaned, the bedrooms perhaps not as much as they should have been.

He’s now 24 6ft 4 and I think he’s seen a doc half a dozen times, generally following an accident.

I’m sure it’s because his immune system was exposed to a lot and gave him a chance to build up his immune system.
