Antihistamines

Hi, I’ve been wheezing like a steam train this past 3 weeks, waking up gasping having to use my Neb M/c in the wee hours. Couple days ago I took two Antihistimine tabs as a last resort, low and behold they did the biz. breathing great no prob. Didn’t bother following on, back wheezing Peak flow 250, took another two breathing normal PF 350. Q. Anyone else used antihistamines to control Asthma?

I take regular antihistamine. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't seem to, but perhaps I would have been worse without it. I've been more breathless than I would like since before Christmas. For the past three days I've been waking with a feeling of a much more 'open' chest and have hardly been breathless at all. I put it down to a change in the weather. xx Moy

Hi, Moy. Thanks for yr response. That’s encouraging. I used to get very sever ‘hay fever’. In Summer that disappeared in later life but settled in my chest, thinking it to be an infection my GP gave me antibiotics all to no avail it took at a month for them to realise it was Asthma bought on by

an allergy. I believe this may be the case now giving me winter Asthma..

I’ve stopped taking the Antihistimine tabs for a couple of days now to prove the point and it seems to be confirming it.

I have been wondering Re antihistamine , whether it helps people with crossover copd and asthma. Cx

Hi Chriskho I have COPD . not sure what’crossover is or means.

Maybe worth your trying them I buy mine from Wilco they cost a few pence. The branded ones are expensive and just the same as cheap ownmake.

Let me know how you fare

Hi garibaldon

I have taken antihistamines season for 20 years but 5 years ago copd/ asthma nurse said I should take them every day I have them on prescription now. I can forget my inhaler once but not my antihistamines. Hope this helps no side effects still work full time.

Hi garibaldon, I have bronchiectasis and sinus problems. When nothing is working for the excessive catarrh I suffer from I take antihistamine which really helps to dry everything up. The problem is it really wipes me out, even the none drowsy but so worth the couple of days relief. I do wonder if I have allergies as well x

Hi Izb 1, thanks yr input. Yep, they can have a drowsy effect. I don’t have that problem. I think there’s a non drowsy tab marketed but not totally sure.

Pleased to hear your good results though. I’ve decided I’m only gonna take em when really needed in case my system gives them a negative
