Fostair and Spiolta

Hi Everyone,

I was ill during Christmas and January and the nurses at my local surgery were very good. After two packs of Doxycyline, they put me on double Doxycyline (Unfortunately, I can't have amoxcillin any more) and oral steroids. However, the respiratory nurse decided to put me on Fostair as opposed to Spiolta. She said it would be better for building up defences against infection

I've been on it for a few weeks and find it ok in the morning but awful at night-time, so I have also taken Spiolta and the two together seem very good, but I'm not sure if I'm going to blow myself up. Does anyone on the site have both?

I was having to have a lot of Salamol when I just had Fostair on its own.

Would be grateful for any advice, as I will then contact the nurse again.

Still hoping Fostair might work, but we're all different.

Fostair didn't suit me at all, now it's down in my notes as not to be used again. Amocycillin too.

But others are fine with it.

I have never tried Spiolta so sorry I can't help you with that.

Could you ring your pharmacy ?

Did you go to your pharmacy or contact your surgery direct? I think I'm going to have to contact nurse, who seems obsessed by the benefits of Fostair, which I am certainly not feeling, although I believe it can take some time.

Thanks for replying.

Hello anng18. Would you mind telling me why you had to stop taking the Amoxcillin? I ask as my consultant has also taken me off it too and prescribed Doxycycline capsules 100g as my rescue pack instead. Chrys

Hi Chrys,

I use to take amoxcillin, but last February, I took the first pill of an antibiotic course and had a pain in the upper right hand side of chest and then came out in a 'perfect' amoxcillin rash all up my arms and my hand were very red and swollen - quite frightening.

I have spoken to two pharmacists and both said I'd become allergic to it, but couldn't tell me why.

I rung my Dr. who gave me doxycycline and hence that medication continues.

Fostair made my breathing worse caused heart rate to beat faster and terrible panic attacks. Stopped it back to normal. Back to old meds Sirdupla. XSheila.

Hi XSheila,

My pulse rate has gone high, although I think it might be because I have to have a lot more salamol. I am also feeling as if I can't breathe, but the feeling is coming from my stomach - like a horrible panic attack.

I hope that makes sense and thanks for your reply.

That's how I was Thought I was dying. The Fostair caused it as others on this site had problems. Check with your Respiratory team or GP . I also ended up in A&E as had rash on bottom of legs. The worse was the anxiety or panic attack .If it happens again try hard to slow the breathing down I know it's hard but in slowly throse nose hold it and out slowly through mouth. Smell the Roses blow out the candle. It does work. Good luck. Sheila
