I do. Mind you I retain CO2 so have a machine which I have with place for oxygen to come through into mask. Ask gp or hospital for a oxygen mask they should be able to help you

I took quite a long time to get used to the noise. I am sleeping downstairs now, partly because husband hates the noise. After a few days we put the converter in the conservatory , and my bed in the dining room next door. The door between had to be left open for the tubing. Then son in law drilled a small hole for the tube, near bottom of the door. That worked. I could hardly hear it. Because of building work in my house, we have gone to stay with daughter,

I have the converter in the same room here and the noise does not bother me, so we get used to things.

A lot of people put the converter in a different room, and stand it on a mat as that absorbs the noise. As to the cannula, I got used to that quickly, but my nose gets more sore.,

Good luck

Xx jo

I have to use it every night because I can no longer use my CPAP machine. You will get used to it. Like jomo suggested, put the converter on something to help absorb noise, just make sure it's stable. I have mine outside my bedroom, on an old folded towel.

Hello Looseloafers my husband uses a CPAP machine and it is noisy. It is left outside our bedroom door and we both wear ear plugs and I cannot hear anything, not even my husband’s and our dog Rosie’s snoring! Carole x

Hi looselosfers, I sleep with a nasal cannula and never have any trouble. It stays put and I’m not one for sleeping in one position. Like everything you’ll get used to it, give it time. Good luck. Joy x

I have been sleeping with oxygen for around 17 years now with no problems at all. I use to go on it around 4 in the afternoon and then come off around 8 by which time I had got washed and dressed in the morning, I use the cannula not a mask for comfort.

I use a cannula also, No Problems, I sleep on my right so tend to have an impression left by the Plastic thin Tube, it wears off. I have to have Oxygen minimum 16 hours, Right now, it's more 20/24 hours. It keeps me alive, so NO, not a problem. PS: I have to Take my Earring out though on Left ear. Ha Ha, xxxC.

I have my Side Kick with me always during the Day (when I go out), Imogen 1 Mobile Oxygen, Like a Shoulder bag, I take it to my Exercise Classes, I can have Good days where I can use a Little Less, but always a Minimum of 16 hours including sleeping time which we are all different, I probably sleep 6/7 hours, make up the other hours during the day. Good Luck. XXXX

That is very interesting. When I hear people mentioning they wear the oxygen 16 hours a day I always assumed it was during the waking hours when you would be exerting yourself or at least moving around and assumed the 8 hours you would not be wearing it would be when you were sleeping as you are not moving around or exerting yourself, aside from maybe rolling over while sleeping.

I am too tired to explain myself. Look it up on the BLF Help Line or ask Your Respiratory Nurse, Sorry I sound flippant, I do know all about my Oxygen, You should do also, seeing that you have been prescribed it. Best of luck. xx

I am not on oxygen and wasn’t questioning what you had to say, was just surprised as I had no idea that is the way it worked. Just found it interesting and surprising and was not asking you to justify how you used oxygen.

That was very nice for you to apologize. We all can be a little snippy sometimes and not mean what we say, so it's very big of you to apologize. Sorry you're missing your family. It's never easy to see them leave. Hugs!

I use a concentrator at home 16 hrs daily sleep with it on or I'd have to stay in all day!...my concentrator sites on a thick mat that absorbs the noise and I had air liquide pipe it upstairs so its connected to by my bed I hop on and pop it on. Over been like this a year and only once woke up with it off. You will get used go it..I dont even notice it now.

Thanks for that cazza34 if you do 16 evening and through the night do you not need it through the day? Cheers Sue

Caspiana profile image
Caspiana in reply to Looseloafers

Sorry to interrupt your conversation Sue. Just want to say no matter how long you have your oxygen on at night, if your O2 levels drop during the day whether you are ambulatory or not, you will need it during the day. There is no quota, example: I was on my oxygen for eight hours last night and that will get me through the day, this is not true. Everything depends on how your oxygen sits during the day. If you are able to function without it dropping below 90% then you probably don't need it during the day. I don't know if I'm making any sense. I hope so. Take care. xx 👋😁

Hi

I have advanced stage intersatial? Pulmonary fibrosis, told I only have months to live, but I am not ready yet, lol

I am connected to my concentrator and/oxygen cylinders 24/7 now, sleeping is a problem,, I have nasal cannulas, which are very uncomfortable, I used to spend have the night putting them back in,

But now by sleeping on my left side it doesn't always happen, I tried the cannula with ear protection they also helped but where too long. And often found them around my neck.

Perciverance is the only answer I am afraid, memory foam pillows help, but getting a good night's sleep is very important.

I hope you find the right answer here.

Good luck and God bless you.

Ernie

Perhaps a bit of surgical tape at night for the first wee while to stop you worrying about the Canula getting pulled off? And agree with others keep the concentrator outside the room my husbands sound alternatively like a taxi or a ferry docking with the occasional beep for good measure 😂. Good luck

That's what i thought, blooming machine banging away and a pipe up my nose. The answer is easily, I've not had any problems. It's obviously important that if you turn over you turn back so as to unwind. I've cracked that too. Whilst asleep
