In 2018, 1.7 million people died from lung cancer worldwide, a number equivalent to the population of Barcelona. The high mortality rate of lung cancer reflects the need for the development of treatments that are more efficient.

A study headed by Ángel R. Nebreda, ICREA researcher and head of the Signalling and Cell Cycle Lab at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) and published in the journal PNAS demonstrates that the protein p38 is one of the key elements supporting lung cancer growth. In particular, the study focuses on cells expressing the oncogene Kras, which causes the transformation of a healthy cell into a cancer cell and whose mutations are responsible for approximately 25% of lung cancer cases.

Hello TwoGreys, I have just read your post and followed up this very exciting news by reading the contents of the link.

Cancer is the dread of us all. I am particularly interested in this breakthrough as my father died of lung cancer back in 1960. These bits of research that you share on the forum must give hope to so many people.

We all benefit by the posts of others here, posting funny poems and beautiful photographs. They all cheer us up. But I know that we also appreciate the time you must obviously take to research and post so many of these very promising results. The results, I might add, being the result of much research.

I'd just like to say thank you on behalf of myself and all the others on the Forum. You are a little Gem in your own right! Chrys

My pleasure, as I have posted before, I get the benefit of "distraction therapy" from it keeping my mind occupied. I presume, that like many on here, those dark thoughts are hard to chase away once they start, I can actually get a break from it all. Strangely, when I am looking at these reports, I can disconnect from the fact that I suffer from these conditions myself. I also learn a lot from them and often get engrossed in many subjects that have nothing to do with lung and associated health matters. The saying that "the day you stop learning is the day you go into your box" is very true :)

Being a former nursery teacher I agree completely with you. I always tried to inspire a love of learning with the children in my care.

Interestingly enough, I take part in online learning opportunities even now. Whatever your interest there's a short course for you. At the moment I have a particular interest in Autism and King Richard 3. So I understand your method of distraction from your condition. Keep up the good work. Chrys
