Hi everyone. Is it just me but when my ventolin is nearly empty is doesn’t seem to be as efficient. I don’t like wasting things but am I better just starting a new one, always have a spare in the cupboard just in case. Many thanks. Rose

There is probably only the propellant left so you would be best to start a new one.

I changed it and noticed the difference straight away, thank you

Yes. Start a new one.

The spray inhalers contain a propellant just like other aerosols so that's what you're getting. I can always feel by shaking it that my Fostair still has something in it when the counter says empty

I shook the ventolin and that felt as if there was something in it still . Nobody warned me of or if they did I’d forgotten. Thank you

My pharmacist, GP nor their several different respiratory nurses who told me. It was the excellent respiratory speaker on my PR course who gave me very useful information x

I hold the canister in my hand to warm it up, this expands what little propellant is left and makes it work better.

Time to get a new one. I get a new one before I get to the end.

As others have already said change it when you notice the difference, I always do. The difference is very noticeable as soon as you change to a new one 🙂 keep well

Greetings

Fill a fairly deep basin with water and drop the Ventolin canister in it. If the canister pops up with its snout above the water, there's still medication in it. If it floats horizontally, it's empty.

Even empty, the accelerant will come out, or rattle around in the tube. This seems a better way.

Cheers

I kept thinking that so I reread the leaflet about how many squirts were in it. I always thought it was a months worth (4 weeks) but if you are taking 2 puffs 4 times a day it will only last about 3 weeks, that's if you don't use any in emergency situations. In consequence I now crack open a new one the minute I feel like it's not doing the job. I would rather waste a bit of medication than be stuck breathless on the loo, which has happened 😱
