Oxygen burns leading to uncontrollable nosebleed (oxygen therapy for pulmonary fibrosis)

My partner who is on oxygen therapy for pulmonary fibrosis gave me a scare recently by uncontrollable nosebleed. We called an ambulance, and they took him to hospital.

Doctors believe that while waiting in Casualty for treatment, my partner may have inhaled some infected blood from his nosebleed. He's been in hospital for some 10 days so far, receiving antibiotics because an infection took hold, and blood tests show raised inflammation markers.

Can anyone advise how to prevent/avoid such scares from happening? Is there some cream or better cannula available on the market which would reduce chances of this happening again? I would also be interested in how you dealt with this, and what you found invaluable for coping.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Hi I have had the odd nose bleed and yes it's scary, fortunately mine stopped on its own. Hope you find an answer to your problem, I have my oxygen nurse coming to see me Thursday and will be asking about these nose bleeds. I will let you know of any advice she gives me it may help. Have a lovely day and take care of yourselves Bernadette 🤗 Xx

I have had a really heavy nosebleed which also meany calling for an ambulance as I could not stop it. However by the time we got to the hospiy=tal the paramedic had stopped the flow. I was given a small tube of ointment to use inside my nostrils and also advised to smear the cannula with KY Jelly thereby keeping the nostrils moist rather than letting them get to dry. Hope this may help

The only thing we can do is keep the nostrils moist . My respitory nurse told me to use biotene gel it's fantastic
