Hello, looking for advice

Hello, I'm hoping to get a little advice. My mum has stage 4 COPD, has had 2 hospital admissions in as many months, the last being a couple of weeks ago where she ended up on the High dependency unit with a severe flare up and was very close to not making it. She did pull through and is now home with community care team visiting twice a day and we have a gold line number to call if she starts to go in decline again. A doctor in intensive care gave me a prognosis of 2 months which another doctor later said was not right, that you cant give a prognosis like that with this disease? Very confusing and distressing.

I'm trying to sort out benefits for her. Both mum and dad receive only a state pension and have no other income or savings. Can anyone advise what I can help them to claim. Any help much appreciated x

After the holidays are over give your local council a call and speak to adult social services. They were a huge support to me offered loads of advice and help about benefits and things. The helpline on here is a good place to start but there is a lot of support you can tap into if your parents are happy doing so. X

Try this. x

gov.uk/browse/disabilities/...

you should put in for attendance allowance which is £340 per month that is top rate

there is a slightly lower rate if she is stage4 it should top rate the forms are straight forward

this allowance has no strings attached to it does not matter how much you have in the

bank I also have stage 4 I never knew about attendance allowance until some kind person

told me

hope this was helpful

Citizens Advice. Bureau They will qualify for attendance allowance.

I don’t know the number, you’ll have to google it on Gov.uk.

This may give you more info.and will give you relevantphone numbers.

If you take your mum in your car ,she can apply for a blue badge.

If you ring and apply online, any benefits granted will be backdated to that date.more online

Believe me! The reason why the governments around the world, are pushing "independent " patients nowadays is for "1" reason ONLY! Money! It is cheaper to keep the patient at home, than to move them into nursing homes or hospitals.

Myself! I am borderline nursing home, because my lungs burn when I walk, my skeletal structure is weakened by inactivity, type2 diabetes etc. I am in a government/state unit, $68 a week, with state subsidy, $388 a week for the rest of the people. A carer to come in for 1hr a day mon/wed/fri +1hr "administration "(general cleaning of unit), the other 3hrs are to give me a shower.

All up! I get about $5/600 , GOVT money to keep me in my home! A nursing home would cost in excess of $2000 a week.

Kiki123peace,

Hi, sorry for your distress & confusion. The disease is difficult to determine and a time frame is hard to establish so the first doctor is likely wrong trying to guess the out come.

Your folks sound like the very least in benefits, try contacting the dept of work & pensions they are usually helpful what can be accepted.

If you cater/shop for them you could apply for a blue badge as an individual.

Your folks maybe able to claim an "Assement" which doesn't pay much but they are entitled,
