Hi folks as I have received countless bits of advice from people on here I would just like to offer a little back in return, on top of my COPD I also suffer severe arthritis of both knees, on occasions where I struggle to walk the effort needed coupled with the COPD leaves me quite breathless, I was prescribed years ago Declafenac to give some pain relief which worked a treat, however at prescription cost for 28 tablets I found that for pennies I could by them abroad so every holiday I used to stock up.
Unfortunately due to the constant use ( 1 per day ) I recently suffered a severe P R bleed resulting in a hospital stay with blood transfusion and medication. I was absolutely devastated when the told me the cause and have since found out the drug a NSAID is now frowned upon, soon to be banned in england, so please anyone who possibly does the same thing and I know it goes on as pharmacist through Europe always say English people but them in large quantities, please stop and seek medical advice, don't put yourself in my position it's just not worth it.
I am now suffering horrendous knee pain and awaiting further advice / treatment but at least I am out of hospital and not causing unnecessary inconvenience to others.
Regards Bobby J.

Hope you get some relief from your knee pain. I was prescribed codeine for the pain following my knee replacement op and the moved on to Cocodamol, Paracetamol and Ibroprofen.
Yes I used to use these years ago until my gp told me how dangerous they are, not only do they cause bleeding but can badly affect your heart. I thought they had already been taken off the shelf. Ask your gp for Naproxen for your knees, again I cant take anti inflammatories without it affecting my gut even with Omerprazole x
I've been on a cycle of NSAIDs for chronic pain following an RTA in 1977, and diclofenac was one of them. I also ended up having problems with Naproxen. At present I take regularly a receptor specific NSAID called Etodolac which is less likely to cause stomach & bleeding problems, and also omeprazole to protect the stomach. I take co-codamol in addition to these as required.
