Pretending.

β€’43 Replies

When we were young children

Our games were all pretend

Patient, nurse or doctor

The choices had no end

Then when we to get to really old

It all starts up again

Yes I'm fine you say to folk

Despite being in some pain

But still we tend to battle on

Pretending we'll survive

Trying to ignore the fact

We are worth more dead than alive πŸ™„

Good morning Mr.D and yes, we're probably worth more dead than alive ..... but let's not dwell on it. In one of your rhymes going back a year ago you wrote something along the lines of ... just be glad to be here today as tomorrow we can't predict.πŸ€” well along those lines, but how very true your words were. We are lucky to enjoy life whilst we can even though we don't half get pulled through the "wringer"most of the time😜

On a separate note completely Mr.D, do you look forward to /could take it or leave it .....πŸŽ„πŸŽChristmas that is?

in reply to SquirrelsHolt

I have memories of many many happy, and merry, Christmases which more than satisfies me, so I would rather leave it. But of course that is impossible without upsetting some friends and relatives so I pretend.πŸ˜‰

SquirrelsHolt in reply to

Yes, me too. Personally I've got terrific memories when my son was a toddler and we were at my mum and dads over Christmas. Good memories and in the day when photographs were taken mainly using a proper cameraπŸ“Έ !! Since the death of my mum and dad now in a care home at the grand old age of 93, this will be such a different one for us. I feel unsure as what emotions will burst to the surface for me, my son and my dadπŸ€”πŸŽ„? Thanks for "listening" Mr.D ..... it all just blurted out. Oh poor you I do apologise. XX

in reply to SquirrelsHolt

We are here to prop each other up SH and to make light of what otherwise might crush us. 😘

Ah so that's why we play pretend games as kids - to prepare us for old age.... x

Hey up Don, you are worth more to us alive.......those poems of yours brighten our days.

Ditto what Knitter says Don.

I'm not sure I'll be worth owt when I pop my cloggs, maybe an organ or two. :)

in reply to Bkin

I'm sure any of your organs would play a merry tune. πŸ™‚

in reply to knitter

But what when the words can no longer fight their way through the thick fog of confusion to display themselves on here. Total oblivion?

hypercat54 profile image

Who knows? However I have no plans to find out anytime soon and neither are any of us hopefully

I have been on this site for many years now and it kills me to lose any of our family. Every single one is remembered with love. x

More words of wisdom from our master bard

who tells us life is just one charade

Perhaps we are entering the final act

Maybe we should have a pact

If we are worth far more when dead

We will spend it all in the afterlife instead. :)

Brilliant. Scruffs can spend it all on cat treats

in reply to skischool

Midge and I are being tested to the limit Grasshopper. I had a tumble in the garden yesterday and wrote this as I lay there, in the recovery position, cursing and calling down the wrath of God onto those responsible for my predicament! Perhaps this is to be my final act? We shared fish chips and mushy peas for lunch today in case this is our last chance. Sod the diets. 😠 Actshully I feel a lot better today. πŸ™‚

skischool profile image
skischool in reply to

A hero to the last Master Po,putting pen to paper in the recovery position is no mean feat, may i suggest that Midge carries a dictaphone in case of future near death experiences and also has direct contact with the nearest fish and chip shop for life saving sustenance. :)

in reply to skischool

I write things in my head young Grasshopper a process that works quite well in the recovery position. Only later is it transferred to pen and paper. πŸ˜‰

Oh hope you are ok. I bet Midge enjoyed the chippy delights. Amazing- their ability to improve our state of being. x

in reply to watergazer

Yes we are fine again, thanks. Midge has now lost a bit of weight and can begin to have a treat now and again, so she's happy. πŸ™‚

Cap'n do you have one of those alarm buttons which send out a clarion call to someone like erm . . . . . Putin or Trump or our very own Mini Me Trump who then rush over to help you in your hour of need and then smear a drop of something on your doorbell ?? If not you should have and also always a good idea to take along a walking stick especially during the Winter.

I imagine that Midge enjoyed devouring (in a speed reading kind of way) the info I sent on that Dog Food.

My apologies - I am so hyped up on steroids I can't stop lecturing ;-) Best wishes to all xx

Never Don, you’re worth more alive

We all practice to survive,

Games as kids were lots of fun

Hopscotch I recall, to name but one

Old age seemed so far away

Who knew how quickly would come the day

Aches and pains would plague us all

The doctor we would have to call

But then our family and friends enquire

How are you? About to expire?

No I’m fine, no need to worry

To meet my maker, I’m in no hurry.

Thank you Don, made me smile xxxxπŸ˜€β€οΈπŸ˜˜

All ended well.

Oh No Cap'n - I beg to differ - you give so much enjoyment to others on here - that cannot be quantified in terms of sheer money - so please banish that thought from your head. Probably won't have time to be around much as I would like, more scans and more other stuff - please keep those digits crossed for me xx

Oh dear when did you fall?

Oh Don, how well you put it, glad you have bounced back a lady I know always says old age is not for the weak I love your poems and I love reading all the reply's you get. I to am on my own and it is a struggle to stay positive sometimes at any time of the year. Stay well hope all manage to enjoy Xmas I especially enjoy the carols and the Disney type programmes on the telly. Love to all.

in reply to 1947Mags

Thank you Mags, I think sharing things like we do on this forum can play a big part in helping us to deal with the medical problems we have. Not to replace the serious discussions that is the main purpose, just to lighten it a bit. πŸ™‚
