Vitamin C crystals - astounding difference for asthma!

Hi all. A couple months ago, at a friend's suggestion, when they heard my asthmatic breathing, I started taking 2 heaped teaspoons a day of vitamin C crystals and have been astonished at the change it's made. After about 2 weeks I noticed a drastic change in lung strength. Have been able to reduce fostair 100/6 inhaler doses from 4 to 2 puffs a day and sometimes forget to do the evening dose as I feel fine. Used to struggle up the hill I live on but now can race up, even in relentlessly cold, wet weather in Wales. A positive side effect is that my mood is much better as well. (Used to have depression and anxiety.) Since this is the only new thing I've been doing I have to figure it's the vit C that's made this change. Haven't had the tummy and bowel side effects some report. If you can, try it. I hope this will help others. (FYI: Age, 61, diagnosed with late onset eosinophilic asthma a few years ago after living in a mouldy house, first misdiagnosed as COPD, which caused almost 2 years of being an invalid and feeling like I was dying. No doctor ever mentioned Vitamin C.)

In response to questions... I found a brand called peak supps on ebay that seems to be without additives. Mix with water. Use a straw to avoud getting too much acidic effect on teeth. I use a bamboo straw as plastic ones are so anti-environment.

Hi, It's so good to hear about something so simple and yet so positive that is helping you so much. It's heart warming hearing you speak in such a happy and positive way. It certainly appears to have the desired effect and I hope it continues to work for you. Give us some further feedback in a couple of weeks.

Best wishes and thanks for telling us about it. Chrys

Where can I buy the Crystal's?

I googled it because I'd never heard of Vitamin C crystals. I still don't know what the difference is between crystals and regular Vitamin C but I saw it for sale at Amazon. It's pretty pricey at £10 a bottle but if it helps... I too am willing to try anything. Right now I'm on my self inflicted diet of fibre, yoghurt and Berocca, and various other vitamin supplements. My stomach feels like it's on fire and I'm miserable! And I'm not totally sure it's making any difference. So I'm willing to try something else that might help and maybe be less offensive to my stomach.

Hi HH, if your tummy feels like it is on fire it sounds like acid, are you on any meds for this? If not you could try Gaviscon to ease it. I would speak with your doctor as alot of people with lung problems seems to have acid reflux x

Thank you. No I’m not taking anything for acid . I’ve been summoned to a doctor appointment so I could ask about it. I’d better start writing a list of things to ask/say because I know I’ll get there and my mind will go blank 😶

you can also find it on ebay. i got peak supps brand as best value. put in water and use a straw so as not to affect teeth too much (acid). Avoid plastic straws please!

I use 'buffered' VitC in order to avoid the nasty effect on my sensitive stomach. I don't quite understand the difference and it is more expensive but the difference is real. Buying from Holland and Barrett as I do it's called 'Ester-C'.

Sounds great. Thank you for letting us know. I've been taking Vitamin C tablets but I might try the crystals. Also with a severe virus, I had an intravenous injection of Vitamin C which also helped a lot. For your info Google "Vitamin C Swine Flu New Zealand". There is a television report which you might find interesting.

Hi dgreen88, I am a great believer in vit c, it also acts as a good conductor for things like collegen. The body doesnt store vitamin c but keep to the daily limits. I am so glad you are feeling much better, good news x

Good morning dgreen

Thank you for sharing that. I am glad that you are finding vitamin c beneficial. Depending on brand used, it seems there is generally between 4500 mg and 5000mg per teaspoon.

If such large doses do cause stomach irritation or diarrhoea, buffered vitamin c, sometimes called Ester C, which is mixed with alkaline minerals such as calcium or magnesium instead of citric acid.

I have constant gerd , I can tolerate the buffered without reflux.

Wishing you continued improvement.

Take care.

Interesting. There is a view that supplements don't work as well as the same substance in food, because they are in the wrong format for the body to absorb easily, but perhaps this form of Vit C is better. It would also be interesting to know whether it is the antioxidant properties of Vit C which results in symptom improvement, in which case other antioxidants might work just as well, or whether it's something more specific to Vit C; guess we need 2greys to tell us what research has been done on the subject!

There are a lot of Vit C supplements to choose from but all

need to be checked to see if they are the right one for you.l do

know that Turmeric needs to have Curcumin in,but also Black

pepper as well so that it gets into the system.
