Dangerous Bacteria Communicate to Avoid Antibiotics.

Researchers at the University of Copenhagen have found a new survival mechanism for a commonly known type of bacteria. It can send out warning signals and thus make sure that other bacteria escape ‘dangers’ such as antibiotics. The researchers hope that the new knowledge can be utilised to make antibiotic treatment more effective.

My con has said for years that bacteria talk to each other, make protective coats for themselves and link in unusual formations to fool antibiotics. She's a smart cookie isn't she.

A very interesting article 2greys - thank you so much for posting it. I found it particularly interesting that the behaviour of the PA was the same with phages as it was with abs. These bacteria are very cunning and you have to respect their versatiity, not that I feel like that at present with PA+++ on board. Can just imagine them going round in circes laughing at me!

It seems they are like little aliens, a bit frightening that these bacteria can communicate and smart enough to outwit antibiotics. Just glad we have smart people working on this x

Antibiotics are of simplistic structure and bacteria can easily adapt for survival. Fortunately there are studies being done regarding other mechanisms that create synergy to help blindside the bacteria, sometimes using herbal oils (nature’s antibiotics). There are a few studies that show using 3 antibiotics the bacteria is resistant to can work effectively, partly because the additional complexity of using 3 can reduce the resistance enough to improve antibiotic effectiveness to normal prescribed “mic” level of the individual antibiotics.
